Ok I give up...

What's the 'FD' knob, stand for?

I'm missing two knobs off my 76'40 and guessing one must be like this.

tee hee hee:D

Front Drive, it was the knob that engaged the front axle.........your 76 has a floor transfer case shifter.

That for floorboard sure looks purdy. Really surprised. I kinda thought you would end using the old carb :). Keep up the good work.

Check with Trollhole, he picked up misc. parts recently. Mentioned something about selling them on the classified section.

Anyone have any extra F.D knobs of THAT vintage laying around?

So that's where the idea came from :D

Got some new parts from Mark the other day...

I have a second half to the list that I'll be filling soon. Sorry I had to run Mark. I hate being in a hurry especially during good conversation. I appreciate all your help and sharing of knowledge.

I replaced the old fuel pump with a new one from Mark. Definitely seems to have a better supply of fuel when depressing the accelerator. (Not sure I can even call it that as it's more of a slow motion-increaser). We'll see if that gets rid of my "hard to start" problem after it sits for a few days.

Also replaced the fuel filter and started poking around the Eaton heater to see what was up with that.

I've posted a request for info on the 40 Forum...

Anyone have intimate knowledge?...

You did put a new fuel line from the pump to the carburetor, right?

The one in the pic looks kind of well, not new. The varnished fuel lining inside the old line will flake off and plug up your carburetor. Maybe it's jsut grubby from the install.

Either way, you are making good progress.

Actually Dan that was an oversight on my part until last night.

I was struggling with getting the new rubber lines on when the old metal line was bending about. Then I realized I really should replace that.

I don't see much availability for that part. Are most guys just running rubber all the way to the top? I'd like to keep the old metal line if possible.

Is it something I can clean up/soak or blow out to make it serviceable? Maybe a shop can custom make one?

Thanks.

Dom, if you remind me on Tuesday, I'll show you an NOS fuel line.;)

Thanks for all your support.:)

Little did you know that's what I was secretly searching for when I stepped beyond the yellow line...

See you Tuesday. Oh and I'm sure I'll have another page of parts I've GOTTA have by then.

I picked up a few more parts from Mark and now have quite a few projects to do.

-Replace/rebuild the brakes.
-Install updated brake master.
-Replace Fuel line from pump to the carb.
-Replace all tie-rod ends.
-Rebuild center arm.
-Rebuild parking brake and replace rear transfer seal.
-I also need to determine the leak at the front of the transmission. I imagine it's the front retainer gasket which I am not looking forward to.

Things I did accomplish:
-Replaced the speedo cable and now it moves!!! And the odometer is spinning again. :)
-Replaced the rear license plate light.
-Replaced the windshield vent rubber.

Old lower piece removed...

New rubber...

I was extremely careful with all of the tiny bolts on the flap as well as the interior of the windshield frame and only one broke off despite the condition of them. Fortunately for me it was after I had loosened the nut to the end of the stud and most of it remained. I just threaded another nut on no problem...

I also met up with Mike (crusherboy) and drooled all over his LWB 45. Very nicely setup and one of the sweetest I've seen.

He gave me a few great ideas and most importantly passed on his old window channel felt that he had just replaced!:grinpimp:

Mine is pretty much all missing and the windows rattle like crazy.

Thanks Mike!!!

Hey Dom, where did you get your windshield vent rubber? I need the same! (and the speedo cable?)

Dallas-

I have been getting pretty much everything from Mark (Marks Off Road Home Page). I'm doing my best to support the smaller guys every chance I get, plus he KNOWS the 45 and has been very helpful.

Although Crusherboys is nice, I would feel more comfortable hauling firewood in yours.

Dan-

Me too!! But I'm not sure Mike would... he does a ton of stuff I would be scared to do with one that nice. Seen him miss Grande boulders by less than an inch with that bed. :frown:
