Dom, sorry I couldn't talk today. The phone was friggin INSANE!

I think I have virtually EVERYTHING on your shopping list, including a used 2.5" lift that I took OFF of my 45 when I put the 4" lift on. ;)

I've got a mad rush to get stuff done before I leave for SNT on Friday. If you just want to pick up stuff, that's cool. But if you want to talk tech and let me help walk you thru stuff, next week would be a lot better.

Thanks for giving me a shot.:)

btw, this is the first time I've seen this thread. Cool project. Takes me back.

Dom,
that thing is sweet! Cant wait to see it roll down to pizza port!

Let me know if you need help sometime. I tied up till thanksgiving with work but after that I'm free.

you can still buy the fuel filter assy from the dealer for about $8. they nnow come with a stamped tin bowl instead of the original glass units. i have an extra glass bowl if you need one.

also, i have a good 3spd trans and t-case i just pulled out of a 1970 fj55. you can have them for $100 for the pair, delivered to SNT. the trans is a top shift 3spd though, not sure if that will work for you.

Thanks guys. I have sourced the filter element but do have the metal bowl. I imagine the glass bowl was original for 65? I'll take it Georg.

As for the 3 speed I have a tranny and transfer laying around here if needed. I'm hoping what I have will work until a teardown begins... someday.

Mark-

Yes I'm good for waiting for sure. I forgot that SnT would be taking it's toll on your time. I'm interested in picking your brain a bit at your convenience.

Also interested in chatting about the springs and some other parts.

I'll be in touch and look forward to meeting you at SnT.

Brett-

I'm Jonesing to get it on the road. I just want to putt it down my street with a big ass grin on my face.

I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions.

I didn't think the glass bowl type came with an actual filter inside, i thought it was like the old fly-catcher kind of air filter, lol where the sediment settles at the bottom of the bowl, kinda like panning for gold, but I never have gold in my gas tank.....

see ya,

Joking aside thanks for posting up the pics. Everyone here is helping a ton. I remember before MUD I had to take a trek to Specter and hope I remembered everything I needed.

Dom, Great find. I have your truck's brother #20163.It will be at SNT if you want a family photo.

Nice find and by the looks of the work so far, it's turning out to be a great buy.:) You may be a able to turn your ebrake drum if it's not too far gone. I did mine a couple years back. I was pretty surprised that they were able to do it.

SWEEEET! I'll be pumped to see that. I'll PM you my info so we can meet at SnT.

Actually every day that goes by I think I got good deal. :)

I adjusted the ebrake and it is holding just a little bit. Good enough to keep it from rolling down the driveway.

OK, so I did a few items today that I will cover in a bit but...

After changing all the fluids, fixing a spring on the fuel pump, replacing a couple fuel lines, plugging an oil filter canister leak, bleeding the brakes and the clutch, replacing a tire (Thanks Adam!), and doing a half ass cleanup on the carb I have this:

I was curious as to which carb you have so I did a search. I removed one off an lv when I first got it. It turned be one from a 50 someting pontiac according to some carb site that sold carb kits...if I remember correctly it was tymco or something like that. Anyhow, I later found the same carb on cousin's 43 chevy pick up. I removed and gave it him and replaced my with the original carb. So think I found carb you have. Mybe not but here's the link.

cool to see all the regulars helping out a newbie in our own little world here.

dom, i'm still stoked for ya. finding and bringing home a 45 is a special feeling. i know it sounds cheesy, but it's true. i've gone thru it more than ten times and nothing has changed; i still get super excited. it's like the far-side nerds coming home with the big-ass butterfly! the hunt goes on.............

fwiw, you can have the ebrake shoes relined. i have had a few sets done. used to deal with a place that relined clutch friction material for having some of the obscolete friction covered components ( bands and clutches for automatics ) rebuilt there and finally figured out that they could do the brake shoes as well. let the fingers do the walking.

I think you can get the brake inner rubbers down at NAPA 1" or so. Just take the little cups down there and see if you find a match, use anti-seize or syl-lube (silicone-non melting) on the adjusters if you can free them up.. Whether you hone or replace the cylinders the brakes like to be used and will weep if it sits too long, the pressure keeps them sealed if I am not mistaken.

If you go all new and don't keep up on it and or keep using it you'll be doing it again if sticking with the stock drum brakes.. my .02

Have fun!

very true.
some of the 45 wheel cylinders are 1", some are 1 1/8". i have a bunch of cores if you need some. i hate throwing stuff like that out and they're just waiting for a happy home.
from what i've seen , there are at least 5 different wheel cylinder castings so make sure you mark them as to their location. can get to be somewhat of a puzzle to figure out which one goes where otherwise.

Yup, especially when you realize the right hand and left hand threaded adjusters got all mixed up as you're adjusting the brakes... Not that I ever did anything like that..
