Well I've been reading through Dan's 45 extra cab build and it's gotten me motivated to work on the 45. I'm still considering stockpiling some parts to update this to a little safer/nicer ride but we'll see. The idea of building an extended cab 45 has me spinning!! Not to worry, it won't be from this rig.

Back to the real world....

The right rear wheel cylinder(s) have been leaking for awhile and have gotten much worse over the last few weeks. I haven't driven her much more than to Home Depot to pick up some wood for a deck, and the occasional trip to work when I don't mind going slow. Tonight I decided to pop the rear wheel and see what's up...

hmmm... where the hell's the rubber!!??

Drivers side looks fantastic and completely rebuilt. WTF!!?? So I re-read through this thread and I remember this side was the one with the broken bleed nipple and I was GOING to get to it once it started leaking??

Really?? From post #29... (NO RUBBER THEN!!!!).

Ha Ha!!! What a dumb ass. Well at least it took this long to start leaking noticeably!

Uhhhhh....I was just trying to free it up...

:grinpimp:

I'm going to dig through my brake parts box and find a rebuild kit. I think the 69 kits work?

EDIT: Forgot to look in my 45 box first. I have these...

I know the cylinder is a rear, I'm going to have to match the parts in the morning to be sure the kits are for the rears.

looks good but ur going to be replacing those again sometime soon, I H8 drum brakes. :)

Noah

I am with Noah, IH8 drum brakes too. Funny you put heated seats in the old crate and yet you stick with drum brakes  I will gladly suffer with a cold seat for a few minutes to have brakes that I dont have to continually check, adjust and are a hassle to replace.

The old rid is looking good, when are we goin' 45 wheelin'????

Dom, just read through the whole thread. Nice work; I appreciate the choice to keep the patina.

Can you post up some current shots of the rig's exterior?

GPS on the cap? Still digging the petina.

Are thinking 3FE with 3 on the tree?

Not sure which tranny will end up there but I'm having a hard time letting go of the column shift. If it was possible to do an H55 column shifter that would get funded today but I don't think it's feasible. I might try it in front of the 3 speed just to see for now.

XM radio antenna.

I'm considering a 2F or 3FE for my LV and keeping the 3 on the tree...Or, just rebuilding my carb!

lol...just rebuild your carb! I see no point in getting rid of a working engine to gain what...just a little more power...just rebuild your carb and you should be fine ;)

I won't bore you guys with a detailed disc brake conversion as it's been documented many times and can be found in the FAQ's. After driving around with the single circuit master for several years now I decided the only way my 16 month old would be able to ride in the 45 is a disc conversion. I started with the plan to do the fronts... then decided to add rears... and finally determined that I would do all new brake lines, t's and fittings along with it instead of piecemealing 9mm and 10mm fittings.

So are you using 60 hubs with the 40 axle?

New OEM wheels (welded) to clear calipers...

Axle housing ground to fit 60 series birfs...

I got my ass handed to me trying to separate the axle shafts. I've used the PVC method many times but went through about 12' of 1.5" pipe before I went over to Noah's and used his metal pipe. Reattaching is a two person job as well to get the c-clips on so he helped with that also.

I had no major issues with reinstalling the lug bolts using the BFH method...

Geo Metro Booster. I'm going to try this for now with a custom spacer. I would eventually like to move the firewall brace over and fit a 60 series or similar booster against the firewall.
