Good to see the "Cruiser Pickers" again. The 40 is in very good condition considering it's age and having been previously swapped. They can either be done well or terribly poor. This 40 is in the done correct many years ago stage. Needs some love and a few things straightened out to continue it's soon to be pampered life with the @cowgirl40 , @ceylonfj40nut , @Cowboy45 and Leim. (we gotta get him an account CD). Happy to call you all my Freinds. Ryan @CaptClose is ok too I guess...

@CaptClose and I were talking about raccoons on the drive down to get Sandy. Don’t know why, but I think it might have been ratted Espanola, NM we passed through that got us on the subject. He shared Racoon Willie with me. Described Espanola well.

It also summed up what we did on Sandy on the lift.
P
You have just got to You Tube Racoon Willie!!!

Things we found:

-Frame is rust free
-Saginaw power steering installed in stock OEM position!!! Not seen that before. Well done.
-Dual Fuel Tanks (Confer). Fill cap is hidden behind tire carrier.
  • Advanced Adaptor frame mounts and tranny mount
  • Add ons/SBC conversion done tastefully. Frame is not butchered.
  • Original leaf springs, flat
  • H42 4 speed, non split case tranny with usual leaks
  • Needs a knuckle job and brakes
  • Confer leaf springs
-Electrical fuel pump works off a dash switch. Need to rewire to work off ignition.

Pics attached. Raccoon Willie them pls and let us know if you see anything worth pointing out.

One last pic of @POTATO LAUNCHER s shop with Sandy and SAS1 canvas in the background. Sandy will get there to SAS4.

For the record, you can stuff a Taco with a crap ton of 80 parts and still flat tow a 40.

And in pretty short order. Just 47 hours from the time the Cruiser Pickers passed me on US 285 north of Santa Fe on the way to Chimayo, NM to pick up the FJ80 parts until the time they arrived back in Amarillo, TX. And Sandy was picked up on the western border of Arizona. Quite a feat considering the vast distances travelled.

welcome to the fun! Add "your family name" to ...Cruiser Preservation Society. What does it make?

BtW, a lot of TX 40 people have hit me up for my "AC" option.
Please do tell...

Crazy part is they headed our way Friday after lunch John. I think they dialed in the art of roadtripping when they went to get Ol'Landy.

@waiting for time we do things a tad bigger down here in TX compared to Europe. Prime and cool example here. Love the wood finishing. @POTATO LAUNCHER used a lot of reclaimed wood and more to get his done. I recall reading your garage build thread in Europe. This is our rendezvous for the Solid Axle Summit 3. Before hitting Colorado. View attachment 1897220View attachment 1897221View attachment 1897222View attachment 1897231View attachment 1897232
Is that a seafoam green 40 I see?

@POTATO LAUNCHER thank you so much for taking the time to do this swap. That shop is incredible! Can’t wait to visit next time.

@Jetlander I was lightly mentioning that using my hinges is a way to get some airflow in the hot Texas environment without installing an actual AC system.

When I was active duty AF at Beale it was like driving through an oven on the way home. My only relief was airflow through the truck.

What I wanted was to be able to pull my doors off easily like our Jeep brethen can.

Edit-So this happened Quik Hinges available

...and my 40 still sits waiting for its LS and 38s and still no Quik Hinges...

Plan to try it this summer with no AC and go from there. All my drives are short and around town anyway. Should be not too bad.

Yessir, that is a 67 40 that a neighbor moved down here from CO. Its been a fame off project for 8 years and I am helping him get it back together.
It's been in his family since 69 and had a SBC 307 installed at the Dealership back in 1968 for a whopping $700.00. That included the new motor, adapter and labor. I'll share the receipt when he brings it out. Not as cool as Ol'Landy's history but cool none the less.
