There is a video on Youtube from Jonesys Auto Club called "80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser Interior Spare Tire Mount".

Not sure how to link it here :frown:

He stopped making them

OTOH thanks Inkpot. I forgot about Tools' carrier.

no extra hardware needed.

Link doesn't work for me

Link works for me too, thanks for the compliment and sharing the pics.

That is my carrier, still make them on occasion, production suspending right now due to having my house up for sale and my shop has been put into storage. Hopefully, I'll have a new shop to move into after the holidays and be able to have them available again...

Hi Jerry and happy new year!
Thought I'd check in on this. I'm interested in a pass side version, whenever they become available again.

Thanks!

Let's Not Getting Killed By Our Spares

Please don't mount your spare like that one with the blue strap above. The hooks are going into the floor hooks near the tailgate and I can tell you with absolute certainty that tire will fly in a wreck.

I had my tire strapped to the third row seat mounting bracket with two 1" 1500 lb. rated cam buckle straps (made for roof top kayak mounting) and took a hard bounce while wheeling and nearly cut both straps in half. The problem is when the nylon sits against a sharp surface of the wheel you're screwed. My wheel did not take flight but I believe in a highway speed front end collision my wheel would have flown forward and possibly killed me.

I don't have a great solution for this problem. I want my tire inside because I don't have the cash for a bumper, but I want it to be safely inside. I've used 2 2" straps and routed them through the wheel center (over the wheel is not secure either) and I don't like that either.

I'm open to ideas on this. Let's not get killed with an 85 lb. spare flying around in there.

jonesy's has one that is nice and looks solid!!!.

I made mine for FOO from some scraps and a tubing bender. Of course, mine is technically not "inside". Oops.

I attached the piece you see to a plate with wheel bolts so I can adjust it when my tire size grows.
