You may have a mechanical speedometer on the 91. At the rear output shaft, there will either be a sensor with wire(s) coming out of it, or a cable going forward on the passenger side.

I am leaning towards you having a mechanical speedo though. I think the electric was a 92 or 93 thing.
 
Can it be done if it's a cable?
Yes. You will need an adapter between the TC and the cable. I'm watching the fight and can look up who made mine when I get home.
 
You will need to know what your system needs. Not all speed sensors are the same. Sine wave vs pulse.

These folks were very helpful with my FJ40 project. Here is a picture of what they made for me. Two speed sensors. One for the engine computer (4 pulse/revolution reed-type switch), and another for my Autometer electronic speedometer. What is not shown is a short 18" pigtail to hook it up to the transfer case.
