It sucks the options on the 80 power train are so thin, I'm getting my stuff in order to swap to a gm 5.3 and am unsure yet if I go 700r4 or 4l60e. Depends on what I can find and $. I'm thinking if I can get the engine/trans together with computers then 4l60e shouldn't be difficult at all. I want more gearing!
 
Or perhaps the psychology of the wheeling community is changing....

perhaps the children dont want to crawl anymore

perhaps they have found better and more pleasurable ways to get their junk up crazy stuff

perhaps they want to go faster now

dont swap the gears

add more motor

People usually want to go faster until they do something like that. Then they grow up and want to crawl.
 
can someone publish an itemized list of parts that is needed to swap in the low gears? might be able to cut new gears for the transfer case

Forget the low gears...someone have a solution that uses the 1FE Engine:D

I have mentioned a couple of times how to do it in this thread. aisin warner already makes the parts.

My other buddy, Joez (who is also working on gearing an 80 series), is planning to go this route.

if the a340 tail housing will bolt up to the a343, how hard would it be to swap the out put shaft also?

i am not comp savy so maybe this is a bum link. it is from the 80 forum "why will 62 split case not work behind fzj tranny"

post says to get a split case in behind the 4.5l motor. swap in a a442f tranny, then swap in an a440f tail housing and out put shaft. so for a crawl box throw in the adapter to get a marlin crawler inbetween the a440f tail and the split case.
 
No these are the same ones. Marks also does a 25% reduction.
 
Well according to Marks 4wd facebook page they discontinued the Cruiser Crawler transmission. So that option is now dead. All there is now is lower t-case gears and I don't see anyone stepping up to the plate and making a crawl box for the 80 ever. Sad.
 
along with the post about hybridizing the a343f bellhousing+a442f guts(middle)+a440foutput+ tailhousing +marlin box+splitcase.

one could possibly also hybridize a343f bell+a343f guts+ a340f output/tailhousing+atlas or marlin. similar was done in this post
