Damn....that just makes my stomach feel uneasy....Seeing another 40th going to that garage in the sky....This is like the 2nd one in 2 months....

Well I'm glad you're ok....let us know if you part anything out...

The vehicle is very repairable from a technical standpoint. Money may get in the way tho.

You know, I'm thinking that if that were my truck and the dirtbags were fixin' to total it, I think my neck would really start to bother me A LOT....:flipoff2:

The pain may go away when I get the truck back.......;)

Get a 100 now.

Grogan, you know me better than that. The last Land Cruiser was built in 1997, as far as I am concerned.

Baker, that is definitely some East Texas engineering on that corrugated door job.

The thing over the driver's door in the pictures is the rear cargo mat, trying to keep all the rain out because the driver's window shattered.

elmariachi, Good to hear you are ok. Sad to see a cruiser in this type of disrepair. If you need anything let me know. Is that a 40th? (edit just read your sig, got the answer)

Vultures, beware!

Not having the ARB is a "glass half empty" approach.... I say cheers to you for being in an 80 when that happened. Looks like your choice of vehicles really paid off for you. Post pics of that bad boy when it's all fixed up!

Bumming for you buddy. Glad you are in one piece.

I'll call you tomorrow - but be sure to let me know if there is anything I can do.

Jim,

Oh man! That's no way for such a pristine rig to go. I am glad you were not hurt. Sounds a bit like a cliche' to say that but you know we all mean just that - we're glad you're walking around pissed.

Regarding major maintenance and such, I'd certainly photocopy all the big/recent stuff and get it to the adjuster WHILE or BEFORE he's looking at the rig. Seems like it's always harder to get someone to move off a number once they've written it down than it is to get the number right the first time it's written.

When the estimate comes in, I'm curious how much the roof gutter molding that ran up your A pillar and to the rear of the roof is. I once asked Dan and all I heard on the other end was laughter. The part was bad, but shipping a 10 foot fragile part was where the laughter came in...

Glad you're ok. But to be honest, that front left wheel bearing looks to be a little loose.J/K :flipoff2:

Hahahaha...good one. The preload is definitely f&^%$d, huh? :D

Doug, you read my mind. Ironic yet untypical for me, I have every receipt for everything I've done to it all neat and tidy in a little book.

Jim,
I just can't believe it......but happy to know you are O.K. I understand your anger as you had put your heart into building that rig up. Try getting every penny out from those SOBs....couldn't tell if the chipper/shreader is owned by the city or belongs to a private company! In case it's totalled, I recall that the DVD system in that rig was installed by a pro shop. Last I checked, just installation of a screen in a headrest could cost upwards of $300 per screen. You even had a custom center console made just so that you could get a DVD player installed ;) The sad part about this all is that no body could put an estimate on how mechanically sound it was due to your hard work. Anyway, good luck with the adjusters. Feel for you.

Let me know if I could be of any help.

I just realized - we've gots lots of work to do getting your 40th back in shape in time for the Round-Up. We'll only have two months by the time Christmas is over and the insurance guys are done jerking you - I mean helping you.

Jim, Glad your OK. Those ARBs are tough and saved my rig when Rachel was hit while sitting at a stop sign.

On the wheel bearing - It wouldn't have been loose if you used a fish scale to set the pre-load.

Hope your back on the road again shortly and quickly taken care of by the insurance company.

Ken

Sorry for your mangled issues.
Glad you are in drinking condition.

Too bad you have the same douche bag drivers as we do here in sunny CA.

There is no escape.

Sorry to see this Jim...I hope you can put it back together. If anyone can I know you will! Like Tarbe said, only a couple months to Roundup!! I feel for you...

Awwww man...

Jim - that really sucks. Glad to hear you're okay.

Sounds like time we see Jim on the trail in the new FJ.... :D

Sorry, my friend, this absolutely sucks. I assume the reason the driver of the chipper is not shown in the photos is that he was transported to the hospital to have his head removed from his rear.

The white beast sends regards.

The driver of the other truck immmediately hopped back in his truck and locked it when I came flying out of the passenger front door with the all important question, "What the %^&* were you thinking!!!!??" He stayed there until HPD showed up.

I went over to Sterling McCall Collision Center this morning and looked at the damage with the body shop manager. It is not as bad as it looked yesterday, though I think CDan's prior comment about it all coming down to money is the big factor. From what we can tell, it will need:

- Hood, inner and outer fender, driver's door and glass
- All grill trim pieces including both headlamps and driver's side lighting.
- Upper cross member in front of radiator.
- Upper steering rod link
- Driver's side front axle control arm and repair of frame mounting point.
- Very slight repair to A pillar hinge mounts, rework of B pillar driver's door latch and upper B pillar, rework and repaint back door
- New wheel and tire.

I am sure there are other things, but this stuff alone will probably be $5-7K. The body shop guy agreed that it could be fixed, it will just depend on how the other guy's insurance values it. If they think its worth $12-13k, then they may total it.

I don't think the frame is affected. The axle shot went back through the control arm, which bent like a straw. The rear mounting point is only barely spread open, amazingly. Once they get it on the rack, it will be easy to tell if that frame moved. The tranny cooler, radiator and AC dryer were also narrowly missed. Had I not had the added height of the lift, all of that would be el toasto.

Thanks for all the kind words. Kaderabak, this is my punishment for selling that white truck. To Rick and Romer, ya'll can kiss my fish scale, preload a$$.:flipoff2:

EDIT...I honestly think if the truck were in my garage and I had a control arm, a tie rod and two hours I could have it drivable. That's what sucks...waiting on others to wrench on my junk.
