Jim - the 80 can be repaired or replaced... Just glad you are OK! An 80 is a good place to be when you are in the inevitable wreck. Good thing you were not in a Mini Cooper...

I'd rather have been in the XJR, THAT'S the MF'er I want gone. You are right...an 80 is the best place to be if you are going to collide with a chipper/shreader. I'd like to do a "Fargo" with that chipper on the guy that was driving.

That car has been the best damn Ford I have ever owned, I'll tell you that much. Back on the subject of the Cruiser, there were a couple of interesting observations as I stood in the rain being pissed. The driver's side control arm buckled inward towards the driveshaft, but didn't appear to harm the mounting point on the frame. Also, the connecting rod between the pitman arm and the right knuckle was severely bent, due to the shot to the left front wheel. But the softer aluminum wheel wasn't really bent or broken. The BIG problem with ever repairing it to my satisfaction is the damage to the A pillar where the door attaches. What is really sad is that this baby was 100% mechanically (and about 95% cosmetically). That's where I stand to loose money, my time on making it right. And I just did a compression check and all 6 were within 3 lbs of FSM nominal, and everything on even the most anal PM list had been done.

Glad to hear you're okay, Jim.

Material things can be replaced, lives & good health cannot. Really glad that you're ok.

Sounds like no one is safe anywhere. Id*#ts everywhere!!

Jim,

That truly is a bummer. If I can help in any way, just let me know. I am around the corner from you.

That plain old sucks! I am happy to know that you are basicly sound and I can assure you that I understand your anger.

In looking at the photo of it on the flatbed, it it probably a total loss from a current value standpoint. I see about 5 grand in parts alone.

Sound? Who you calling sound?  I am a long way from sound. But I AM a short distance from the first of several Shiners . :crybaby:

Now that's the proper attitude!

Jim if it totals, buy it back, I have a guy up here that does bodywork cheap, here is a pic of some of his work..........

:D :D :D :D

THAT really sucks, JR. Knowing you, I actually feel a (very) little sorry for the adjuster...that poor SOB has NO idea what he's walking into.

Do we need to start forwarding leads on '97 80s?

Elmar,
First: Sorry for your loss....
Second: Since you witnessed exactly how the chipper/sheader hit you, can you explain how the ARB could have prevented the damage to the side of the truck.

ouch! sorry to hear about the accident and glad you are ok. If it's any comfort, I don't think an ARB would have prevented most of that damage. I hope it can be repaired- I know what you mean about the most painful part being the meticulous maintenance. Good luck with this!

Jim,

OUCH!

I'm glad you are OK though.

Good luck!!

Mot:frown:

Damn.. that does suck. And from the first picture I can't really see anything wrong with the chipper :frown: Thats probably the worst part, knowing if you had the ARB you could have done some damage back, and felt a little better

BTW are those floor mats, or towels hanging off your roof rack in the 1st picture? To keep rain out of the broken window?

If you look at the picture below, you will see a bent piece of u-shaped steel strap that goes up and across the rear of the shredder. That piece acted like a vertical knife that started where the front nose corner attaches to the bumper and peeled off the outer fender skin right down the fender hood seam. Being plastic, the outer left corner of the bumper offered no resistance. Had the ARB been mounted, my guess is it would have not given way and ejected me a little to the right. I probably would have then lost the flare and gone ahead on into the side of the truck. You'll also notice on the lower right of the trailer where that u-piece attaches, there is a shaft and a big retainer nut. I only knicked it, but that shaft and nut blew out my tire and dealt the blow to the hub, pushing the axle back and bending the control arm. I think an ARB could have offered enough resistance to deflect the truck enough to the right that the tire and wheel would have missed that bolt/nut, leaving me with body damage but little or no frame or axle damage.

Get a 100 now.

But only if you want exhaust manifold cracks, TPS failures, CV joint problems, possible torsion bar cracks, pink-er panties than an LX owner, etc. Otherwise stick with the 80. ;)
