I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long

I'm a cabinet junkie. Have a pair of 30-drawers (you can see how far along I got with labeling these 25 or so years ago). Also have a bunch of Stanley-Vidmar/Lista/Equipto cabinets in varying sizes that I've scrounged over the years. Would like to pick up a few more of those but they've gotten so expensive I doubt I'll get any more.

What ya doing with that power meter in the first pic?

I've got one of the old spinning disc versions and a digital. Used them to measure power consumption on various pieces of machinery. New place has digital/auto reading meters so I've always been reluctant to hook up my digital meter for concern over some sort of strange feedback to power company. Should I be?

I’ve been wanting to make a lamp using the older style for the base.

I don’t think so, especially if it’s not from or the same type your power company uses.

Congrats Michael on your 33rd wedding anniversary!

I found this at Hobby Lobby tonight.

I am considering a major tool purchase for the shop. I have been watching with great enthusiasm, the cleaning capabilities of these new laser units. I watched Brent from Halfass Kustoms using the X1Pro unit he has. I was genuinely impressed! I contacted him privately about that unit and he fully endorses it. This unit will also cut and weld. I have a small MIG welder already, but I don’t have anything to cut metal with, that doesn’t involve a blade. And more welding capabilities might come in handy down the road.

Here is the link to the unit I am considering Xlaserlab X1 Pro Laser Welder, Cleaner & Cutter - https://www.xlaserlab.com/products/xlaserlab-x1-pro-laser-welder-cleaner-cutter any constructive input would be appreciated.

Looks interesting. Depends on you needs and strength of the welds. No experience with it. Laser rust removal looks like a fun afternoon or 10 that is different. I stuck with oxy acetylene, and hypertherm plasma cutter. Oxy for thick cuts. plasma for thin. Plasma can be attached to a cnc bot for finer cuts. Looking at price, IMO latter would achieve similar? With proven tools, perhaps come in at similar cost.

@ceylonfj40nut thanks for the input CD. My predominant need is the cleaning feature. I have had enough pot sandblasting to last me.

A friend hosted a shop day a few months back and a small company came in for a demo of their laser cleaning machine/service (set up in a small trailer to take it to jobs as needed). The results were definitely impressive. It appeared that their were many variables that influenced the time required to achieve desired finished results, so there was a clear learning curve with this equipment.

Good luck. Eager to see your results

There was a line of guys breathless to get a chance to try it out. I didn't see it as a likely possibility in my future, so I watched from the perimeter. Now I wish that I had paid more attention and taken a hands-on turn with the equipment. I might have more tangible observations and info to share.

I follow Brent as well and have seen his videos on the laser welder/cutter/cleaner. Looks interesting, but is out of my price range for such equipment at the moment. Wray Schelin also just posted that he got one at his ProShaper Workshop:

I'll be interested to see his thoughts as well.

I won a set of party lights at the office Christmas party last Wednesday. They’re Edison style LEDs on a rheostat.

Thanks Al! Happy new year buddy!

Hey Michael…thank you and the same to you. I would enjoy seeing this truck when you are close to getting it running/driving. My friend who convinced me me to get a 4 post lift has a 49. He swapped a Chevy 350 cuin , automatic, lowered the body, electric locks and power windows and a really sweet interior and lots of other frame and chassis work. I’ll have to send you a few pictures when I see him again. The color? FJ 40 mustard yellow 👍

I look forward to the pictures Al. Those AD trucks are really nice when properly put together.

I have been contemplating installing Green Hinges on all my roll up doors for quite some time. I finally pulled the trigger on 3 sets last weekend. They arrived this week, so Friday afternoon I installed them. It was rather easy task and the end result was worth the time and money. All of my doors now sit flush with the jam/seal. They don’t move when the wind blows and are quieter when in motion.
