I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long

I have been contemplating installing Green Hinges on all my roll up doors for quite some time. I finally pulled the trigger on 3 sets last weekend. They arrived this week, so Friday afternoon I installed them. It was rather easy task and the end result was worth the time and money. All of my doors now sit flush with the jam/seal. They don’t move when the wind blows and are quieter when in motion.

What are "green hinges"?

These?

I was writing the same question since Michael’s comment was at the bottom of the page… when I clicked to the next page…same question

Never heard of them but I FULLY understand that slop in my 18’ door. Well, I guess it never $top$

I’m going to have to get some of those.

@1911 I said this to myself last night… my doors a 6 panels high….done!

By the way, I noticed they sell residential and commercial…. Turns out the difference is the color of the spring. Residential is silver, commercial is yellow zinc

@Michael B thanks for posting this… I’d never heard about something like this before. Ordered them and got the email and tracking number this morning. I d just believed that at some level, accepting that 3/8-1/2” gap was normal unless you paid a fortune for doors that tracked differently. If this works like advertised, I’ll need to do the others

Al the actual difference is the width of the door. If it is 12’ wide or wider, you would need the Commercial/gold spring version.

I recently replaced the hinges on our garage door and there were several configurations required. The manufacturer's diagrams do not indicate (to me) that there are multiple configurations. Did I miss key info? (do I need to re-read all the info on the website because it was right there) Thanks

I think you should have kept reading. The installation instructions call out the different hinge configs very specifically. The are numbered from 1-4, for my application, with #1 starting at the bottom.

@LDowney the YouTube video they have on their website is a short but detailed explanation of how things Install

Update to the post above: the hinges arrived and the look great. If you’re planning this for a future project…order ahead. Took 12 days to get here from Wisconsin. Should make a nice snow day project..you don’t need to even open the door.

Hmmm, it must have been a weather delay in shipping. Mine arrived in 3 days. Since I have installed my sets, the temperature in the shop has not dropped below 51*. We have had several nights in the 20*. But the real test will be this coming Monday night as temperatures will drop into the single digits.

Al be sure to report back post install.

I don’t know if this link will work, but I think I discovered some new shop music tonight.

With an overnight low of 11* the shop temperature was 50* this morning. 💪🏻

Nice to know you’ve beat that horrible 51*. 😂
I was going to install mine yesterday during the snowstorm…but it’s been in the 20’s and it was freezing inside…today, I plowed snow for 90 minutes. My hands are numb again from the cold. I finally have blood flowing thru my fingers but it’s already 4:00pm

I think MAYBE by next week?

No single digit temperature last night, thankfully, but it did get down to 11* again. The shop temperature dropped to 46*. Still not bad for no heater running.

Thanks for the tip sir! Installed mine today. Definitely pushes the door against the frame well, and it seems to be quieter operating overall. The quieter bit might be a placebo effect though, time will tell..

If they work well over the next few weeks, I'll get a set for the other door.

Thanks again! Hijack over.

Exactly my plan. I have them here waiting for a break in the weather to install. And if they work well, there are two more doors waiting
