I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long

It has been awhile since I had some dedicated time in the shop. What can I say? My weekends have been consumed by family obligations. Oh well, today was a good day. I think I finished the rear bumper. I’m satisfied with it, for now.

I know it looks like it’s drooping down in the back but my torpedo level says it’s actually going the other direction 🤷🏻‍♂️ Once it has 4 tires that are the same size and it’s sitting on the shop floor I will know better what adjustments it really needs.

Hey @Michael B amazing how those obligations can eat up time. We go on Saturday morning to our 2 grandsons soccer games…real pros at 5 and 8. On those Saturdays when I had planned a few hours on the Sniper project, they get eaten up and my other obligations begin to mount up.

Did you fabricate this bumper? It does fit nicely and as you said, that right corners does appear to dip. One of those optical things!
Keep up the great work you’ve got going on

Here is comparison of before and after to show how much metal I removed from both sides, in order to make it fit the bed of my truck.

Thanks Al @knuckle47 I bought the bumper but it was originally made for a truck with a 9’ bed. So I modified it. It is difficult to find these bumpers in the south east.

So as I see it, you had to guesstimate the radius or were you able to create a template for each side? I have seen similar bumpers back in the ‘70s on some trucks but I have not seen anything like it in a few decades

I made a template to begin with, then I kept adjusting it until I was satisfied with the fitment.

I bought a project table from marketplace today. This joker is heavy! It weighs at least 200 lbs. I unloaded it with the engine hoist.

Is that a commercially available cart or did some one make it? Certainly solid

It appears to be a commercial unit. It seems to be old. There is a paper tag on the bottom shelf. I will investigate it this weekend. It is very stout. I don’t know what they were lifting with this table, but I wouldn’t hesitate to set a SBC on it.

I have 3 similar tables but no casters. Nightmare to move, I need to install some casters. I intend on leaving them in the pole barn to work on things.

I have already started using mine. I like it a lot. I can imagine that yours would be very difficult to move without casters. If you install casters you will probably want a brake on it as well.

I took care of a small project I have been thinking about for awhile now. There was a gap between the stair riser and the tread. While ascetically not a very big deal, it was allowing dirt to fall into the storage area below. I’m pleased with the results.

I am a touch OCD and while things that need to be done won’t drive me too nutty, when I do finally get it done…it seems to be significantly satisfying.

I’m sure you’re smiling inside ?

Indeed I am sir.

An old and very good friend drove down from Virginia on Friday to bring me a wrecked 05’ Escalade with a 6.0 LQ9 engine.

We had some quality fun time on Saturday and then came home to unload the Escalade.

Sunday after breakfast we stripped all of the bent sheet metal off the front of it.

@Michael B if I may, what are you going to be doing with this? You clearly have talent on display just by seeing your FJ45 and reading the amazing story behind it….is that another project or do you have plans for these parts?

My apologies gentleman. The LQ9 is the power plant for the GMC build. The rest will be sold and the carcass scrapped.

Looks like my friend Tony Sopranos old Cadillac car. I haven’t seen him since I last bumped into him in the dinner.

Got plans for the motor?

Those front seats might prove to be a nice touch in that GMC… I would love to change the seats in my 40 but everything besides the Fuel injection and Hyperspark is stock so it looks nice. On the other hand..my butt is getting thinner and boney..
