Snuck across the border again to rescue another FJ60. Had a great poboy and met a couple of cool cats

This guy has owned it for 20 years but has not cranked it in two and saw it rotting away and reached out to me via my @89nolder Instagram.

I went for parts but I think this one can be made whole again.

It’s a work of art really. Does not hide the Land Cruiser grill which I like. I have not noticed the extra weight

Man. What a week.

Part 1


Tuesday morning we left Mississippi at 4 am to get to Fort Davis Texas with enough time to hit the Davis Mountains before sunset.

Mission accomplished … stay tuned

We got up early and grabbed chorizo egg and cheese burritos at Marfa burritos

The route southbound through Palo Pinto Canyon to Ruidosa is awesome.

We gassed up and had another round of burritos at The Patio in Presidio before heading into the State Park

@WharfRat and I travel hard and try to see as much of a place as daylight will allow.

This is my 4th trip to the State Park and there were 3 main areas I’d never visited. First on the list was the Las Burras trail and canyon

It’s a down and back. Good campsites down there.

We went back to the Saucenda headquarters and checked in. Last light was still 4 hours away so we dove down the west side of the Solitario to check out the Rincon camps

This road is really nice. I’d like to camp at Rincon 2 someday. It’s way remote and cool

So far we are about 85 miles off road and have not seen another soul

We were camping on the east side of the park which made the Solitario Bar stop perfectly timed for pre-camp beers

End of day was worth the wait. Winds kicked way up. Tomorrow it was supposed to be serious.

We pointed the Autohome’s into the wind and fired up some Rudy’s brisket on the skottle

The next morning the wind was a full gale. We made a loop to the north from camp then pitched south for the Boficillos Mountains and Guale Mesa.

The climb up Mexicali is the first place I used 4Low. It’s a nice loose climb.

Out and back then west towards Guale Mesa
