I am yet again bringing you a Head-gasket rebuild thread

Hopefully those are casting marks. I'd consider sanding or gently filing/scraping into one to see if it's more than just surface deep. If they are actually cracks I assume that the cover would have started to destabilize so hopefully you'll find that they are just cosmetic.

I think you are correct! Just asked @TurboDennis and he had the exact same opinion, going to try lightly sanding them down and see what I find after I get it a little more clean, thanks for the tip!

Fairly common non-issue. Lots of folks have asked the same question. I think only one had a legitimate leak.

Yes was very worried at first!! as I knew from previous research it was a pain and a half to replace this cover! Im fairly confident its not a worry at this point... going to sand it in the morning and see if as is well!

Cleaning is going well.. slowly but surely... who would've even known it was silver under here after all those years of leaking gasket oil accumulation haha

Looking for the help of Part knowledge gurus! So after days of waiting, the parts distributor I'm getting my new cylinder head up here in Canada from gets back to me saying this:

" Afternoon Jared
Per the VIN supplied the correct part should be 1110169106 but its no longer available. You have ordered the 107 please advise on what you would like to do.
RegardsWatson"

But from the Toyota parts distribution website is says that 1110169106, 1110169107, and 1110169105 are all Supersession. I also checked briefly on ToyoDIY and searched up by part number and it confirmed that they are all the same...

I'm wondering if this is true and if I just go ahead and tell him to proceed with the order of 1110169107 which he claims is available. My truck is a 1997 FZJ80.

If a third confirmation is what you want then calling the dealer might be a help. If it were me, I’d order the 107 based on the two sources you have posted.

There are other online Toyota parts sources to check with also. You can call them as well to get the confirmation you seek.

Everything you need to know is in this thread below. You may want to back up a few pages from where I copied to get a feel for what he's really doing, but later on he shows complete part numbers in photos.

Thanks for this! appears the 1110169107 will be just fine and the parts guy im talking to in Canada is wrong is saying that the 1110169107 and 1110169106 are different! cheers will proceed with the order!

As a very long time Toyota parts guy I am deeply disappointed by improper part number syntax. Toyota part numbers are hyphenated.
11101-69106, 11101-69107.

My eyes BURN when the hyphen is missing. :moon:

Sorry my apologies, I will fix my mistakes going forward!! almost forgot to order 90406-08011 and 90406-17007..... ah-ha hyphenation :bounce::cheers:

When I type a part number out the hyphen comes out by pure muscle memory. It's actually spooky.

Thats true Toyota Part guru status , I'm in awe of that knowledge!

More cleaning and more cleaning... nothing else to do but clean and wait in anticipation for the new head... said to be around 1-2 weeks. Work season is starting up as weather cools off and we can start making snow at the ski hills, it needs pushing!! At least I live close enough to bike or walk lol

Parts parts parts!! We’ll borrowed a close friends truck today after our morning pre-season run down at the ski hill. Went around town what felt like ages, town is getting busy with winter approaching all the ski flock is coming up from Toronto. Anyway got a good chunk of hoses... all new Pcv line... wasn’t the biggest fan of the PO hydraulic Line he used.. I mean I like the robust idea but wasn’t a fan of how stiff it was and how you couldn’t tighten it down on the PCV.. also got some new lengths of silicon hose for the intake cross over from the supercharger and then a smaller piece for on the supercharger itself!!

Went and picked up my valve cover! Am stoked on how this turned out love the slight sheen it has on different angles.. now I just need to afix my little 1FZ sticker, And for only 0$ It was a good price in my opinion, and owner who is great guy said any troubles with cracking bring it back and they’ll fix me up!

What do people think, leave the letters painted or sand them down with a block so they’re silver?

Looks great, I vote for sanding down the letters.

I’m swaying that way so far, originally I had asked them to mask off the letters but when I picked it up they said they didn’t have masking tape small enough...

No more shine on the bottom end

I would vote for not sanding them down, you'd be invitiing corrosion to get under the paint layer. If you want the letters to stand out, paint them a different color on top of the base coat. IMHO.
