How is the market on 2021 LC 200 60k miles?

I don’t think it’s going to be too underpowered with the 465 ft lbs of torque, though it will probably sound like a tin can rattling around under the hood trying to make that much power with the 4 popper. The electric boost should alleviate most of the turbo lag, but it will feel very synthetic.
those 465 ft-lbs wont really help towing though. You will be relying mostly on the 2.4L only. The electric might kick in for bursts, but when TFL took the hybrid tundra up the ike gauntlet the electric system shut down completely once they hit 50 mph and didnt assist at all after that.

They just bought a new Tacoma and said it was gear hunting and struggling just towing a 2500 lb offroad camper

Oh yeah, for towing, that will be a completely different story. That’s a huge reason why they are only allowing a tow rating within the 6,000-6,500 pound max threshold.

I think it will also heavily depend on how much the curb weight of the rig is as well. Google shows the new 2024 Tacoma is within 4,100-4,500 pounds, while this new cruiser will probably be in the 5,000-5,500 curb weight as well. This surely will not help.

I agree - believe you me.

The common consumer though which largely drives the price of 200’s? That’s where it counts.

LC held its value very well because it was Toyota’s legendary halo nameplate. That won’t be the case moving forward here in the States. Which is rightfully a shame.
Gotta say - no one but people on a Land Cruiser forum know what a Land Cruiser is (atleast in NA) let alone know it is a halo vehicle. I doubt the 250 will impact that. Most likely this will be the first time your average buyer will have heard of the Land Cruiser.

My point exactly, and when a used 200 series will be sitting on the lot with a higher price tag compared to a shiny new 250, what uninformed consumer will purchase the 200 over the 250?

If they sit in the 200 and actually feel the quality of the vehicle, then that may sway their opinion, but there’s no guarantee they will do that.

Right now, the feel of the 250 is still unknown, but I have a very hard time believing Mr. T will be building the interior bits to the same robustness and quality with 1/2-2/3’s the budget.

Forget LC250. IMHO, GX550 will kill LC200 market and LX600 too.
Very fair point on that. I can’t believe the new GX essentially outclasses the LX on the spec sheet besides the HP rating. Which may be a benefit since the smaller turbos will spool up faster on the GX.

Hell, even the curb weight is slightly higher on some trims and it can tow more.

lol. I had a rental 2023 V6 Tacoma. What a ****ing dog. No torque. No power. Couldn’t hold top gear driving on flat ground into a mild head wind.

yup.

Name me a few things where LC200 is better than GX550...maybe besides nameplate? I think that maybe our interior is actually roomier...that's about it.

A consumer who is buying a $60k late model USED LC 200........can borrow $15-20k more and get a brand new Lexus GX550 with longer warranty.

Yeah, it’s mainly the V8 and more interior space are the big perks… and 16 years of known reliability.

I have wide shoulders, and it’s tight squeeze in the current 4Runner. I doubt the new GX will be much better in the interior space department.

The 15 MPG in the GX vs the 13 MPG in the 200 will not compel me to swap to the V6. The cost of just one repair to sift through the hose and wire bird nest on the TTV6 (in that cramped engine bay) will far outweigh the gas saving proposition.

Love live the V8 :)

I posted a thread on that

You can drive one today?

That is about it. With the LC300 not an option, the 250 a joke, the GX550 is the nextgen/upgrade path for me from a LC200.

I did not feel cramped in the GX550 at Overland Mtn last year. Seemed fine. The wide consoles give a lot of room to the right.

Interesting. A friend has a new Tacoma Sport 4 door. I use it for hauling wood and coal off the beach in Alaska. Seems like plenty of power. But I’m not speeding.

Yes…have a feeling that 200 values will be ok and it will have cult status maybe even quicker than previous generations. It has the name plate (I love the new GX, but it does not), it was a relative rarity in the US when produced, it is the last of the V8s, the enthusiast community knows it for what it is (and the 250 series for what it is not!). I wouldn’t be surprised to see a drop in values, but ultimately values for well maintained examples will be just fine. “Last of the v8s” has a “last of the solid front axle” -ie 80 series- ring to me. Last I’ve seen, prices for nice examples of the 40s, 60s, 80s, 100s were all pretty solid - I see no reason for that to change (especially with the limited production of the 200 series).

I agree with @Madtiger that it is the GX550 that will impact demand for the LC200. Lexus expects to deliver 30k GXs in '24 vs 5k Toyota LC250s, and IMO the GX is a better apples to apples competitor to the LC200. Lexus is also doing a great job pushing the GX550 hard to the Overland community and getting the word out what a great capable vehicle it is. That said, given the low LC200 numbers sold in the US, I expect it to retain its value well enough just like all previous generations of Land Cruisers.

As much as I covet owning a 2022 LC200 Heritage, I'll be leaving my beloved 2013 LX570 for a GX550. Sure, I expect a slight downgrade in quality/robustness, but the truth is the LC200/LX570 far outstrip anything I am likely to notice over 10 years of ownership. I can't justify paying $90k for a 2-year old LC200 with much higher operating costs, when I can get a new GX550 Overtrail for $70k, that is still higher quality and robustness than any other off-roader out there.

I expect the GX550 to be an upgrade over my 2013 LX in almost every way that matters to me (maybe slightly less so for those of you with a '16+)... +23% mpg, more power, +1s acceleration (0-60 in 6.5 vs 7.5), +1,500 lbs tow capacity (to 9k), tow mode, stock rear locker and 33's, Toyota's latest (quiet) crawl control, E-KDSS (f/r), better AVS, modern tech and more accessory options. With the new design the GX is only just slightly smaller than my LX in width and looks helluva lot tougher!

The icing on the cake is that a brand new GX550 will be cheaper to insure and repair than my 11-year old LX.

What will I miss? AHC, and less intrusive tech.

As much as I adore (now and forevermore) the Land Cruiser name, and have owned many in the past, I gave up my zealous attachment to it when I bought an LX. I don't care what the badge says... I know what it is under the skin.

I will take E-KDSS over AHC any day of the week. Zero maintenance. AND, with Lexus pushing GX as an off-roader, the aftermarket support should be A LOT better than LC200!! May even approach Land Rover level one day.

It's sixes for me.

Yes, E-KDSS has better articulation and no recurring maintenance.

Yes, AHC is a pain to fluid change. But it's plenty bomber, and god I love the ability to lift on demand. I can't tell you how many high center situations that's saved me from (though it almost killed me once digging out of HC snow). It's also SUPER convenient when towing, as I can just lower, back up, and raise into the hitch without ever exiting my vehicle till I'm ready to lock in.

I agree with you about towing. But remember, AHC LX at HI setting is same as LC on stock suspension. So, if the GX550 keeps similar clearances as LC200 then you won’t miss AHC at all.

What you mean with aftermarket support? And reaching LR level...? Or is it meant sinical. I am lost.
