Well the good news is I just managed to buy a NOS windshield for my '83 FJ45 Troopy from Mark's Off Road in Burbank. The bad news is Mark doesn't want to do anything further than hand it to someone.

So who lives near or travels to Burbank? o_O

I know of someone around Bakersfield looking to come to Grand Junction in a couple weeks to get some Pig parts. Then we are planning on touring Auburn with the daughter, if we are talking Alabama ,in a month and could probably figure out way to transport it.

Wow. That would be beyond fortuitous. Yes we are definitely talking Auburn Alabama.

looks like mid/late 60's,,, me and John Wayne had one so you know they were cool little rigs.

BTW, i aint driving to L.A. but if i can be of help with that glass i can certainly do some exchange driving to get it and package it to ship to you, my fee for most Land Cruiser matters is a large Mocha.

Thanks so much for the offer. I think project "windshield - coast to coast" has taken a life of its own and for the most part I have become a spectator. I won't bother with details until after the fact but let's just say how amazed I am that a slight cry for help has turned into a full scale logistics exercise. Great people on this forum.

Well 604 days later, I have the windshield in hand. I'm not sure where this odyssey ranks in the annals of "mudship" duration but it's got to be in at least the top 10. Of course I probably don't need it for another few years so not an issue as far as that goes. I didn't quote every offer to help but it shows what a giving group resides, at least part time, in the Land Cruiser community. Super special thanks to Jon, @greenbeast for more or less single-handedly getting this windshield to me. Here's the Cliff Notes for anyone intertested:

  1. A mud member picks up the windshield (no box, just the OEM plastic cover) at Marks Off Road and takes it to Jon's house in Colorado.
  2. Jon moves to Oklahoma and brings it along.
  3. I drive through Oklahoma on the way back from Arizona but couldn't connect to get it due to schedule conflicts.
  4. Jon calls me out of the blue a couple weeks back and says a colleague is going to Birmingham (2 hours from Auburn). Unfortunately I am unable to meet him in Birmingham due to other commitments.
  5. I contact friends that are more or less on his colleagues route and they offer to take delivery.
  6. Wife and I had to go to Birmingham yesterday and.......604 days later I have the windshield in hand.
