That only applies to much older cars.
There are years listed that it applies to.

After reading this Brian, I thought I might have found the one local cop that needed to seek medical attention for that erection lasting more than 4 hrs. :D So I looked into the code and found this, direct from the PENDOT website:

INSPECTION Classic vehicles are subject to an annual vehicle safety inspection. Antique vehicles operated exclusively between sunrise and sunset are exempt from the normal lighting requirements of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, but must have their original lighting equipment. Antique vehicles are not subject to the annual vehicle safety inspection. Antique and classic vehicles are not subject to emissions inspection.

I was in our 1984 Monte Carlo with antique tags at the time (about 8:30PM) and was read "the riot act" about not following the law for Antique tags. No citation, but he made it clear that there would be one if it happened again. I can find nothing year specific as it applies to lighting and operation after sunset. If you have information otherwise, please share so I can wave it in officer Viagra's face!:flipoff2:

I looked earlier as well.
A few years ago there was more to the sentence referring to driving after dark..that included something about vehicles between the years of 1906 and 1930 or there about.

But to be fair, it doesn't say specifically say they CAN'T be operated after dark, just that one's that are operated only during the day are exempt from the normal lighting codes.

I had classic tags on my VW and remember reading the above questions, but I could have swore I read some kind of exception that read "unless coming from a car show and/or club gathering". I drove mine at night plenty of times, and never had issues but all it takes is that one cop that had his corn flakes peed in to ruin your day.

Too bad PA doesn't consider FJ40's a truck or I would just get farm tags for it, all the same benifits of the classic/antique reg. but the cops round here don't harass farmers about the driving after dark rules. Oh well right now I'm fighting the electrical gremlins.... The slow, angering, want to smack the s*** out of whoever cut/spliced/hacked the hell out of this wiring harness!!!

I don't know what you guys think, but I think this driver's seat really classes it up...

I'll cover the passengers seat to match!!!

Looking good it's coming togeather!!!

Spent most of the week troubleshooting the electrical...started with nothing functioning at all.

(except the heater fan which let me know if I had power but with no top I don't think it's going to be of any help this year besides as an aux. radiator if the engine runs hot).

First action was to remove all the wiring I could find that wasn't original, it filled a 5 gal. bucket. I'm not a fan of electrical at all but like everything else on this vehicle I figure it's very important to understand each piece especially when I'm planning to make an almost 50 year old vehicle my daily driver.

So as of tonight I have won:

- Wipers
- Running Lights
- Headlights: High and Low (each was a different wiring issue)
- Hazards
- Turnsignals
- New Cigarette Lighter (just to do something with the hot wire and keep it from floating around the inside of the dash)

Still battling:

- Brake lights only function with the hazard switch on and then it also lights the front turn signals
- Horn (its either the relay or the way I hooked the wires to the relay)

So as soon as I get those two items figured out, mount the front bumper and some paint on the rear quarters it's done. (well done enough for now)

I think your stuck to a 50 mile radius with farm tags. RC is about 54 miles from my house.

Great meeting you today Dave. The 40 looks great!
It's coming along nicely!
I'm am going to ty and find the wire diagram I used.

Thanks again Chris, that seat is awesome! Hope those Audi seats fit nicely for you.

Switched those wires at the turn signal and brake lights are working perfect. Also found a wire to get power flowing to the horn relay again.

Awesome! Glad it was an easy fix!
I think the seats will work good. So much better than what I have now. I'm making brackets to fit my sliders. Should have something together by the end of the week.

Slowed down since starting a new job this week. Still got some things done, the diaphragm in my transfer case was shot so swapped parts from a spare and got it functioning. Took it for a drive around the farm today and she has a fuel issue I have to solve.

Oh well, pulled the gas tank out to drain the 2 year old "ethanol enhanced" gas and to paint the tub. Found a hand full of coins from late 1800's early 1900's and a bunch of foreign stuff, some casino tokens from Las Vegas etc.... I think I'll just put those back under there after I'm done painting for whatever reason, maybe it'll keep the 'old gal' running in my favor.

@TrapperHunt I wouldn't toss them back under there too hastily. Some of the coins in that picture may have enough value to pay for some parts. If not, certainly a case of good beer or a couple of nice steaks for you and the Mrs.

I'm no expert, but have gathered a few coins over the years. Here's a link to a quick market value guide (one guy's opinion):
Coin Values Discovery

The Barber dime and quarter alone could be worth $15 to $520, and the Indian penny upwards of $50. All of it depends on condition and mint location of course, either way it is a cool story to tell when talking about your 40!

Good luck!

Dave you made a good choice for speed of installation not to us those bucket seats. It is taking a lot of modification work to get them to fit right. But that's what I enjoy doing! I'm on the 3rd rendition to get the feel and slides just right.
