hmmm, I was just thinking about this the other day. i have a lock box but I like the idea of having it at arms reach and not locked up while I am driving.

This is nice but you can use my set up in any vehicle and keep and use the holsters you already have and when you reach your destination you could place your weapon back on your person. I prefer an IWB holster for this set up.

What Phil said. Thank you! Being retired Coast Guard I always have the deepest respect for all those Sheepdogs who choose to protect the sheeple.

I was thinking more along the lines of something like this, for those trips down to Baltimore!

I carry my Glock 43 with me at all times. I don't take it off when I'm in the car. I have a lock box under my seat for when I go somewhere it's not legal for me to carry and have to leave it in the car. The only time I'd like a holster mounted in the FJ is if I was on a long trip.. mainly because I always wear comfy basketball shorts on trips. haha. I usually just put it in the door pocket during those times.. In Texas you can carry a gun in your car without a license. I just don't like leaving my gun in the car because I don't want to give those douchebag thieves any reason to look twice in my ride. You might check your local laws also, all these holsters that I'm seeing here and talked about aren't concealed. Even if it's not illegal, you should never leave a gun in plain sight un-attended. I know some would never do that, but even the visible empty holster would draw unwanted attention if you ask me.

I miss the old days when everyone had rifle racks in their back windows with at least one gun in it. #Merica

I would not drive through DC or Baltimore without anything less than this!

Talk about "Open Carry". Now we're talking!

Youre probably breaking the law just by reading this thread....

At any given moment I have at least 2 fixed blade knives, 2 folding knives, Leatherman tool, Rifle (Takedown Ruger 10/22), 1 (most likely 2) pistols. IF I have to leave my GHB in the car it's cable locked to the back seat bracket.

The Rifle and one of the pistols are in my GHB (Get Home Bag)... I'm not paranoid, I'm prepared.

Plus I live in a small town of about 15,000 people and it's not uncommon for me to cruise the dirt county roads and shoot rabbits and other varmints from the vehicle. Things would be different for me if I lived in a big metropolitan area.

Bolt a Fobus anywhere handy.
Common issue holster for militaries.

If you leaving it in the truck I would at least attempt to lock it up and keep it out of sight.

Does that steering column holster block the crotch vent?

I won't advertise what is on or with me at any given time but I will say that you are not the only one who likes to be prepared. ;)

Our CCW instructor brought this book to our attention. No I didn't need a license here but when traveling a CCW lets you legally carry in I think 36 of the states. It's a great resource as every state is different as I'm sure most here know.

On the subject I'm thinking of looking into Joey's lockbox for when security is needed AND a holster of some sort - location TBD.

I have one of those books in each of my cars / trucks. My CO conceal carry permit has reciprocity in 33?+ states... But each state has different travel requirements, for example while my Permit is valid in Utah laws do not allow you to travel with a round chambered in your handgun while you can in colorado. Most people don't know that in almost all states your car is considered almost as protected as your home, therefore you do not need to have a carry permit to have guns concealed in your car. (Again there are local laws which may prohibit concealing in certain areas, ie. the Denver Gang Banger clause outlaws specifically concealing a hand gun under the drivers seat)

That book @92LXAZ referenced is very important for any gun owner to have and understand.

To the point of the topic, I just put my rig in the door pocket when in my car / trucks then it goes back on my person when I leave. Lock boxes attract attention and thieves, so I try to avoid them unless they are well hidden.

Thanks for the book link. My wife and I always get the up-to-date gun laws whenever we travel. We avoid states like Illinois and other grey states like the plague.
