I had a day off today, so I thought continue with repairing the window, as I don't have mig welder and the arc is not going to well, I thought I'd try something different.

I cut out the rusted sections on the window, I then cut another piece of metal and placed it inside the cut and pop riveted that piece to the vehicle, I then placed the section I had cut out from the donor vehicle over the top of the metal strip and pop riveted both pieces together and then I used body filler sanded it all back and I finished up today with just painting it with rust kill primer.

I only used very small rivets right up inside the frame, I wanted to use counter sunk rivets but the hardware shop didn't have any, anyway once I put the window back in you won't see the rivets.

Ok here's the photo gallery to explain what I did :steer:

The third and forth picture there shows the metal strip in place

The next photos show how I pop riveted the new bits in place

Now with the primer finished and the tape removed

So tomorrow, I will rub back the primer and then spray with red paint, I purchased a couple of matching spray paint cans for all the touch ups

Well guys, you wouldn't believe it, I've been in touch with a bloke out here at Halls Creek, he has an unlicensed 12H-T cruiser and I've been discussing swapping the 3/4 passenger seat with his bucket seat with TURBO etched into the seat.

Well he rang today and said I could have the whole vehicle, so we talked figures and I am now the proud owner of another factory 12H-T, I'm not going to tell the price because you wouldn't believe me:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:
All subject to the vehicle starting.

I can't believe it, it took my 5 years to find one 12H-T and now I own two in 3 months.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.:D:D:cheers:

Hey

Can anyone tell me, when I paint over the primer tomorrow should I tape it up the same as I did with the primer so should I leave it open and then buff it afterwards so it blends in.

Thanks

Spudman

G'day

I can't believe it, it took my 5 years to find one 12H-T and now I own two in 3 months. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.:D:D:cheers:
Spud -
A) Welcome to Mud
B) No one is ever offended on this site
C) Sell raffle tickets, have a drawing and send the 12H-T to the winner

You will be very popular...

Back into it this morning, I masked it up again and painted the final colour

So here it is

Thought while I'm here I'll hang the clothes out, I used pegs to hold the roof lining down, just used sikaflex

Left that for about an hour and then put the window back in, these sliding windows are so easy to put in  just seal them and then put the trim over the frame and body and Walla all done:bounce:

Very happy with the result

So moving right along on the next agenda.

The rear wheel arches

I'm getting pretty good at this cutting now, so I cut out the rusted sections on both sides

The donor pieces fitted in perfectly, so now I just have to weld them up, so I've got to put the wheels back and take it around my mates place and weld them in.

That's enough for today, getting too bloody hot :steer:

Question time please

I was moving The grub out of the driveway and putting the donor vehicle in the driveway, now I've only owned HJ61's and I saw this, a third gear stick

953bebb2fd0785e6d8c9ee86ec4d6d46_zps74488cc3.jpg

Can someone please explain the third gear stick, I know the big one is the gear stick, the little one is the transfer, but what's that middle sized one

Thanks

If its a 5 speed box, it is probably to engage a pto...Can't see the picture tho, so I may be wrong...

Ok, sorry guys!

I had a look at that link and there's some photos of the same stick, I don't know whether it's a 4 or 5 speed box, but it doesn't seem to be anything everyone wants, I was hoping it was a diff locker or something, anyway thanks for the replies.

Just a little more in regards to this lever, I had another look at this donor vehicle it is a 1984 HJ60 and it has H55 5 speed gear box.

Another thing I found on the dash is a switch it say lock/unlock, I'm thinking that is probably for the doors, central locking, I was hoping it was diff lock but I couldn't be that lucky, or could I :flipoff2:

Hey spud! I love seeing other Aussies here on mud!
I love seeing blokes having a crack more!

Good work so far on the 60 mate, how much does rust make your heart sink!??!

The gear lever is a funny thing it looks like a 4 speed split shift but if you say its a 5 speed you've got me stumped!
The lock unlock switch for the doors is usually on the drivers side door but again I haven't seen an early 61 so you could be right.
Both cases would be easily solves with some close up photos.

Search some thread for the rear windows options but in my opinion Kevin from wagon gear (http://wagongear.com) also great a member here has some creations that will make you buckle at the knees.

I'm assuming you have the 12ht motor with the CT26 turbo? Instead of going the intercooler option which can cause a bit of brain decay perhaps you should explore spinning the turbo or upgrading to a GT28 and adding water cooling, better yet get the GT28/60!!
Now I'm just projecting what I'm wanting to do.....
The CT26 is a shocker for lag. Mind you the better compression of the 12ht makes up for a lot of the lag.

It looks like you have a bit of spray still to go, a word from experience; just nicky, primer and shadow your mods then once you're done respray each panel (or the whole car) separately. Also shadowed nicky looks heavy duty like you aren't afraid of taking on 12ft drops.

I just sourced a 12ht second hand turbo kit from QLD at $1500 but at the last minute bailed to get the turboglide garret high mount kit for $2500.
But I can't lie I really love the genuine Toyota cast intakes! To bad nobody separates them.

Good luck for the future mate, looks like you're going hard. If you need aftermarket Japanese gear and you're not having luck up there you should try east coast 4wd (http://www.4wdspares.com) ask for brendan or bobby and let them know Jesse sent you, they can most anything and in Japanese! (This is not a plug)

Hey Oz

If you'll give me $100 over what I paid for it, then it's sold to you my friend for $100, when can you come and pick it up

Hey Crick

Definitely a 5 speed mate, I had a good play with it today and also the compliance plate says H55.

I was actually looking at some door cards in NT 2 weeks ago and they had another hole in them and the bloke said it's for the door locking mechanism, so yep you're right.

I'll take a photo of it tomorrow, gotta go to work now, so maybe it might turn in something useful.

Thanks for the advice and the confidence mate

Yeah now I look at bit closely at the stick photo it looks like some kind of Frankenstein PTO of the back of the tranny or you could be right it could be a proper QLD mechanical box locker.

Beats me mate, but here's some photos of that switch, it has 3 wires coming out the back, I think I might have to put a battery in and see what happens
