Nice build, lucky the runaway did not hit anyone & the axle did not crush you and if you have another one of these days:
Watch out for new springs in the rear hatch because I pushed the hatch down and my fingers slipped and it hit me full under the chin: a rear hatch uppercut  ouch :hhmm:

Hey Nex

Careful with those rear springs if it's your first time doing them, I put an axle stand on the rear axle outside near the wheel nuts, I then put another axle stand on a block of wood under the chassis in front of the rear wheel, I then undid the 2 U bolts first.

HJ60

Thanks for the support mate, I'm still laughing now about my runaway vehicle:bang: at the same time I'm being super cautious

So today I thought I'd try out my new sand blaster to clean all the surface rust off the springs, shackles etc. turned out pretty well:clap:

Tomorrow morning before it get too hot, I'll get under the car and sand blast everything and paint it all black, still waiting for my shockie to arrive

The next job on the list was to weld the new seat bracket in and the bracket for my console.

d076ff47943cb9c9a5267457ed92b700_zpsbcf228fe.jpg

Before I could weld the console bracket in place I had to take out the old bracket for the bench seat, so easy just drill the spot welds out and it comes apart.

I then welded both brackets in place and painted the red

Please don't pick on my welding, it's actually very strong and not going anywhere. :bang::bang:

Next job sound deadening

After lunch I decided to remove the front section of carpet and prepare the vehicle for sound deadening, as usual when you bring the carpet up the underlay is half stuck to the carpet and the other half to the floor:bang:

So I scrubbed all the underlay off and used the air gun to clean out the vehicle.

97be554db9c64116edc257f085d94f2a_zpsf74c3ec8.jpg

I decided to leave the underlay on at the back as it was complete and put the deadener over the top.

I then started putting the deadener down, surprised how easy it lays with the sticky back

2e7c8ccb0ce0f7ec845360d344a44ed9_zpsf5d86a49.jpg

And I only used half of the roll of deadener so still got plenty to the doors :bounce:

Question

Anyone who has done the doors already, did you have any problems getting the door cards back on ?

So that ends another day, still got another week an half on holidays, so plenty to do

Nice. Wait for your driving feedback on the sound deadening.

No worries Nex, I go back to work in a week and a half and I've promised the mrs that the car will be back on the road:steer:

Just thought I'd go out and do one more little job, drilled the holes for the wires in the front doors for the electric mirrors and then wired them up and bolted them on and Walla they work another big thanks to Mr Toyota for putting in the factory wiring

Today I thought I'd try out my new welder with some seam spot welds.

A few weeks ago I cut these out

Well today I decided to weld the pieces in from my donor vehicle

Firstly apologies for my iphone photos and some of my spot welds might look like holes but actually they're not:censor:

Coming up next the body filler

So next step was to put the filler on

Sanded it all down and coated them with rust preventative primer

I then painted them in red the same colour as the truck, the good thing is that most of these repairs will be under the flared guards :D

So it all turned out ok and if I ever decide to do a full body respray I'll go over these areas again:clap:

So now the only rust repairs I have left to repair is the roof and the front doors

Hey guys

Just looking for some quick advice regarding sound deadening

Has anyone done there doors and did you have problems putting the door cards back on.

Thanks

Spudman

Hi Spudman, I have not done the doors (still need to grease the window sliders) but it seems an easy task, you need a kind of special tool fork te remove it but some brute force seems to work well.

To install it says: Do not block the trim seating with tape, install the door trim with clips to the inside doorpanel by tapping
(AKA Brute force...)

There are some threads about it but I just remembered the special tool and brute force> like always, maybe yours are damaged from removing (of course by previous owners, not you :hillbilly: )

With a cloth you can remove the clip from the window slider and then the trim retainers :flamingo: technical talk :wrench:  :flipoff2:

Thanks HJ60

That's not actually what I was looking for, I'll try and explain better what I'm after.

I want to put 10mm sound deadener on the doors to reduce the noise, but I'm thinking it might be hard to put the door skins back on afterwards, so I was seeing if anyone else has done it before and how they went about it.

Thanks

Spudman

Hey Spudman, haven't done it to a cruiser but I have done this on another vehicle. The deadner goes on the inside of the door skin. Nothing will go between the door and door panel. If that helps. The Grub is looking good,

This is beautifully done! Spud,

My truck has rust on the roof, where the body is welded to the top frame. Touch up paint might not be enough, some suggest that I weld the crack up.

Any suggestion from you please?

cheers,

Keen to read advice on ths too. I thought on the door trim inside shoule be fine.

Hey Spud, can you take a picture of your winch? I don't feel there is enough room behind the alloy bullbar. As yours is alloy too, i would like to know a bit more about. Winches are on sale atm in vic. $300 is pretty good deal?

Cheers,

Hey Sved, Bluehawk

Thanks for the link and advice guys, that is spot on and has given me some ideas.

If you look at the below photo, all the holes in the door are recessed, so I'll be able to put sound deadener over those holes and if I also put the deadener on the inside of the outer skin that will work perfect

Hey Nex

Here's a couple of photos of my roof which needs repair, I won't be cutting any of my roof out, it's a structural thing.

So have a look at the photos and see if yours is similar or worse

With the winch, I haven't actually purchased my winch yet, but I will be, can you please put up a link to those winches you are talking about.

From looking at mine

I thought I'd have enough room, if I don't I will just extend the chassis rails out say 100mm and that should give me plenty of room.

With alloy bullbars we have no choice, but I will get it sorted, so what are your welding skills like :steer:

Hey Nex
I have also purchased Ridge Ryder before and yes they work fine, they have gone up in price a lot though, when I purchased my 12000lb winch from Super Cheap they were $300
