Didn't do a lot today, basically a rest day, have a think where I'm at and where I want to be:steer:

So I just painted my suspension black, hoped my shockies would turn up today, but only my tie rods turned up, I want to finish the back first.

Well I never actually tested my 16 inch wheels to see if there'd fit, they line up in the holes ok but they rub on the tie Rod ends:bang:

So I'm going to have to get spacers, I'll probably only need them for the front but then the vehicle would be out of track so better off getting all four.

I've had a look on eBay and decided to get the 30mm spacers, I think that should do it nicely.

Well I ended buying 38mm spacers, I think they'll all much of a muchness along they're made from Billet Aluminium, the determining factor when I buy something on eBay is the feedback and this guy had the best feedback.

Hey Nex

Here's a couple of photos of my roof which needs repair, I won't be cutting any of my roof out, it's a structural thing.

So have a look at the photos and see if yours is similar or worse

I thought I'd have enough room, if I don't I will just extend the chassis rails out say 100mm and that should give me plenty of room.

With alloy bullbars we have no choice, but I will get it sorted, so what are your welding skills like :steer:

Hi Spud, i took two pics of the rust on the roof. Can you suggest that if i need to do something about it?

Currently i sprayed silicon on the spots. Hopefully they won't get worse.

Nah apparently they're off a hilux, at the end of the day I knew I'd need them, due to the dish

Hey Nex

Are they rust spots, they look kinda of weird, anyway it doesn't look as though any have eaten through the metal, so easiest way is to rub them back to bare metal, then spray on some rust inhibetent and then use body filler and then spray with same colour as car, can normally pick up the cans at supercheap

Hope that helps

Thanks spud,

Someone says it is rust from where the frame and roof are welded together. Probably needs protection welding....

Yeah not sure mate, I've never seen anything like that before.

Anyway getting back to fitting a winch, I think you said before there's about 150mm of room for the winch to fit between the bar and front of the vehicle.

Well I've come up with a solution, but you are gonna need someone with welding skills, I'm gonna cut the ends off the chassis of the my donor vehicle and weld them to the end of my chassis, I'll also reinforce the chassis rails with some flat steel bolted across the welded area.

All sorted

Today was planned as a day in the country with the mrs and a few friends, so we headed to lake camatapilla which is about 35 k's out of town in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway whilst driving along the track we came across a wrecked 60 series, nothing real usable but it was a late model and all I needed was one door to remove the channels.

So on the way back, I grabbed the door and away we went home. :D

I mentioned earlier in my posts the early model doors are different to the late model doors in the channels where rubber seals go at the bottom of the open section, that's why I was so excited when I found the door :bounce:

So got home and cut the two pieces I needed, welded them in and put some body filler on, will now leave it overnight and rub back and paint tomorrow:cheers:

This is the channel I was talking about

Also put filler on a rust hole in the front passenger door

Just gotta sand back the roof and fill some holes and the body is finished

Spud, lucky find!

How do you do the sanding? Sand paper or a tool? I might try some painting but never done on metal before.

Btw have you dont your lift. I have finished spring lift today and will need a few small stuff like extended swaybar links front and rear and long shocks as in my post regarding lift.

Cheers,

First of all i dont have donor cars to get the rail from, secondly i know nothing of welding, no tools either.

I might look for an arb bullbar with winch holes ready.

Hey Nex

I've a couple of orbital sanders, 1 air and 1 electric, once I've finished sanding I then used 1200 wet and dry sandpaper by hand to get a nice finish before painting.

Nah lift not finished yet, still waiting for my shockies, bushes and extended shackles:bang:

This wrecked 60 today has an ARB winch bar but it looks like the po used it as a battering ram :censor:

I would say you wait for extended brake hose and extended swaybar link too. Otherwise it will turn out very ugly when the wheels travel full down.

Hey Nex

I'm not sure about the sway bars, or brake lines, I've never done them before on 2 inch lift.

But I've still got the donor vehicle that the springs came off, so I'll have a look under it tomorrow and see if it has both extended, if so I'll grab them.

Btw I searched eBay they don't have any extended swaybar links for the 60 series.

Today I decided to put the carpet and seats back in, I've had nowhere to store them so they were starting to get a bit dirty. :bang:

The carpet went back in quite easy, I gave it a bit of smack, but it's still quite dirty, I've decided to clean the carpet and seats whilst there in the vehicle, I usually just get stuck into them with the high pressure cleaner, but since this time I won't be selling it after I've finished it, I thought I'd do it differently this time.

So finally starting to see some progress with the seats back in:cheers::clap:

I'm gonna do custom drawers over this part

I stated in an earlier post that I was having dramas with my 4WD selector solenoids, it would engage 4WD but would disengage unless I swapped the vacuum hoses around. Common problem on the 60 series.

Anyway I replaced both solenoids with another set and tested them and they worked perfectly so I swapped them over permanently and that's all fixed.

Now I've developed another problem, I'm not sure if it's related but it only happened since I fixed the solenoids, my vehicle has now started leaking oil from around the front of the sump area.

Any ideas please.

Btw also if anyone is interested I am selling a set of these solenoids on eBay just type in this number 331105388288 into www.ebay.com.au and they both work perfectly.

These are the solenoids I'm selling

Hi Spudman,

Yes it is beginning to look like a real classic again. 6# series rule.
Did you ever think about putting a fridge center console inbetween the front seats instead of the standard one??

Greetings

Is it the sumpgasket or does it come from somewhere above the sump? Oilpump or
alternatorvacuumpump.?

You wouldn't believe it but the mrs spoke about the same thing the other day:)

Yea they :princess: like luxury items:D
