Just went through this entire thread. Very nice finds and excellent job getting them back into shape. You can still buy new door cards for those model 40s, just FYI. I bought a new set recently for my '83 Troopy.

Any chance the original jack was in any of those 81 or newer models? Pretty sure the number would be 09110-60020. Would like to see a photo if possible. Thanks!

Thanks, l have really enjoyed getting these old girls running and driving again. Have just sold my Gen 1 Hilux so can invest some more money into the cruisers. Wife keeps asking when the shorty will be done. l will be looking to replace the door cards but not sure if I’ll go for the factory ones or go with ABS ones like these

I didn’t get a Jack when I got the Ute but had one in the shed, still need the handles thou.

Here are some pictures of the Jack @WarDamnEagle, l think it should be the brown jack from factory from what i have seen.

Now the snorkel is fitted I will have to come up with a solution for plumbing the airbox up. Have seen long lengths of tubing but like the more direct approach and thinking on adding a new intake piece or reusing the existing one?

Exhaust parts arrived for the Ute and 3” for the 80 series. Decided to remove the old 47’s exhaust and build my new one.
Going 2 1/2” with sports muffler I’ve had laying around for years.
Here’s the old one removed

Got the rego done yesterday and took it for a shakedown run to blow out the cobwebs. Went well for a NA diesel, steering was not the greatest at 100km/h but I have a plan to rebuild the front end soon.
Notice that the odometer was not turning over aswell. So today decided to have a look at the cluster.
Found the vertical gear had broken off its lower mount, possibly due to the fact the odometer was seized up. Took a bit of force to remove all the gears from the odometer shaft.

Can see the broken off piece in this picture

Had an old Hilux speedo head and found it almost identical. Picture below, notice the bottom speedo head has the steel pin in the LHS for the vertical gear drive. The vertical gear assembly was mounted on a steel pin which was fitted in the speedo head. So I drilled and used the steel pin to mount my gear. Couldn’t use the Hilux one as it wasn’t exactly the same but could be made to work if needed. Mounting the pin seemed the easiest way to fix what I had

Cleaned all the glass, old grease and cluster gauge faces, regressed all the gears, tested and installed. Also cleaned up my spare speedo head assembly while I was rebuilding clusters.
Another look at the steel pin.
The gear on the LHS was missing from the Hilux speedo head but could be swapped to make it work for the cruiser if needed.

After rebuilding my 80 hubs which had some rust on the swivel balls, l cleaned, sanded and painted them. I live near the beach and my vehicles will see some beach work so seems like a good idea.
You can see the worn swivel bearing race.
Also cut off the lower shock mount so I could move in out further to help clear the steering arm. Larger diameter shocks seem to rub on this arm.

Moved the lower shock mount out about 10 mm which was enough to clear the steering arm so it doesn’t rub the shock body. Just clears the bolt in the swivel hub.
Adjusted the stops aswell.
I will probably run bilstein shocks which have a narrow body which will give more clearance.

nice finds and build! always been jealous of your aussie 47's, our late model 45's didn't have discs, h55 or the tacho.

did you finish your snorkel install yet? from your pics looks like you should be able to turn the air box 90 degrees back and looks like it will almost line up perfectly. would require cutting and rewelding mounts for the box though.

Thanks mate, the late HJ47 40 series have all the good bits and are sort after here.
Not many diesels had the H55 gearboxes that I have seen but can be swapped in. I think most farmers choose the 4 speed. Power steering seems to be only on the petrol models.
I haven’t decided which way to go on the snorkel pipe work, I thought the same as you but the inlet is quite long and a little higher than the snorkel. When you rotate the airbox the drain in the bottom hits the alternator so that would have to be moved as well. Was thinking a new inlet on the back side.

Been driving the old farm truck around giving her a good work out. Found a few little oil leaks developing so fixed a few yesterday. Did the oring on the transfer case idler shaft and the front selector shaft for 4wd. Had to remove the shifter and shift boot to access it. Wasn’t much room to move in there, seal was totally destroyed. Cleaned up the shaft the best l could but there is still some wear on it. I installed the seal in flush but after checking my 5 speed in the shorty it sits out and the dust boot clips on to keep out the dirt and crap.
