At some point, the cruiser had an aftermarket tire carrier. It used the two holes for the left hatch bumper, plus two more that were drilled, with nuts glued on with RTV...
There were also some holes drilled into the bumper and a bracket on the crossmember. I found an image of a tire carrier that might have been the one or similar.

I filled the holes, and now I need to find a replacement hatch bumper bracket...

Took another little outing to Lake Casitas and rented some kayaks yesterday. One of my passengers had a little trouble getting in. This got me thinking about my intended use for this Cruiser. I have never been fond of running boards, but I think I will reinstall them for the sake of my passengers. The same passenger had a jolly time riding in the Cruiser though, she felt like she "was on safari!"

Also made some more progress on the rust:

Sourced my missing hatch bumper, but the spring was shot (the right one was shot too). I saw somewhere on Mud someone had rebuilt these like I did, whoever it was, thanks! Grind the head of the pin and pop it out, add an M4 bolt and nut, a new spring, and some cold galvanizing, and voila!
