Took a trip up to Flagstaff to pick up Harumi on Saturday. The scattered showers predicted ended up being pouring rain by the time we got there. Interstate 40 is a beautiful drive.

Been putting things back together and even drove it to work on Friday! It's such a joy to drive the Turbo Slowmobile again!

This is a very cool color in person. It changes dramatically with the lighting. Tan in sunlight, sort of a clay when overcast, and gray at dusk.

While I was at it, I put new flap material in the rear vents. The originals were looooooong gone.
Hopefully this cuts down the cab stinkyness.

Got to work on the sound system. I installed an Out of Sight Audio Mark 2 unit where the dash speaker was, and am adding speakers in the @orikawa door panels. I also put some sound damping in the doors so they make a nice thud when closed instead of a tinny twang.

Adding some luxuries back in. Sound deadening, carpet, and a tailgate panel from @orikawa!
Fitting a carpet meant for a left hand drive automatic truck to a right hand drive manual truck took a little bit of extra work... I need to make a piece that fits closer around all of the shifters to make it look nicer and cut down on the noise. It is noticeably quieter in the cab, but there is still room for improvement. The roof panel has quite a bit of low frequency vibration; this should be mitigated by the eventual sleeping platform and bedding. I also haven't put my floor mats back in yet as they need a good cleaning.

The out of sight audio sounds and functions great, but has no fade or balance control. The rear speakers are considerably louder than the front (since they are larger), so I wanted to add a way to reduce the volume of the rear only. I added a PAC LC-1 Level Controller inline with them (well, the guts of one anwyay). It works, sort of... 90% of the dial range is speakers off, and the last 10% is basically full volume. Doing some reading, this might mean that the PAC has a linear potentiometer, and I should find one that is logarithmic instead. A coworker also suggested getting an attenuator instead. This is a bit larger and pricier. What say you, Audiophiles of Mud?

I also installed a new twin stick shift boot, as the AA one did not hold up well...
The material on the new one is thicker and feels better. Time will tell.

Also, hauled some more wood. It's a good workout loading and unloading all of that.

The twin stick on the transfer... is this to separate the functions of the 2/4 and H/L shifting?

I have a sound deadening project in my future.. I'm deaf on one side so maybe I only need to do half as much as you?

Yes, it allows the use of 2WD Low, even with the front hubs locked. If it had come with the manual 4WD shifter, I probably would have left it alone. Because I had the vacuum engagement 4WD and I wanted the manual shifter, I went ahead and got twin sticks.

I did a pretty minimalist (ei, efficient) approach to the sound deadening. Many people will cover up as much surface area as possible with the sheets, where I just put them in the centers of panels where they are most effective. More is better, but it's a case of diminishing returns I think.

Been busy using the cruiser to haul things. My buddy lost an apple tree in one of the recent winter storms. It will cure for a year or so and then become something new.

I finally got my hands on a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst so I found the time to install it. Cruising around town I did not notice a loss of power, but it is quieter and less stinky.
I added some additional heat shielding as well.

I also started putting in the interior plastics back in. I couldn't have matched the color better if I tried! Happy coincidence!

Reinstalled the Temperature gauge and Altimeter. I plugged it in and turned the key to on before I bolted everything up, and lo and behold I was getting the error codes again. I opened up the box again and found another cracked solder. I couldn't get the solder to stick the board, so I bridged it to an unused pin port on the same conductor surface. Nice chilly March day, oh wait that's Celsius...

I took the cruiser up to Carrizo plain to look at wildflower blooms. It was spectacular!
I followed a 4WD trail, with lots of steep gravelly hill climbs, on the eastern edge of the area that follows the ridgeline separating Carrizo from the Central Valley.

What did you ended up using under the hood for sound deadening? Nicely done!!

I ended up having a casualty in Carrizo.

Low frequency vibration from washboard road exciting a heavy mass.✅
High stress in the middle of a beam in bending. ✅
Heat affected zone near a weld.✅
Stress concentration at a sharp corner.✅

The tire carrier cracked in an 'of course it was going to break there' spot.

So I added some gussets and another member. So much for my shiny powder coat.
