The problem (for me, anyway) with the guy on FB (and he posted on MUD) was he wanted around $1500 per person just to start the project and he was a complete unknown, as far as the MUD community goes. Too much of a gamble, I'm guessing for most people.

But there is definitely interest.

I have one in use and will be taking the truck off of the road for a bit in a year or so. I could let you use mine as a model to begin replicating new replacements

AWESOME. Let me get a little further along and I'll likely take you up on this offer. Incredibly generous, thank you in advance.

I've reached out to the gent on Facebook to try and arrange a conversation, of sorts. I think you're right, that price tag seems risky for an unproven design/concept.

Cool. Mine is oem from a Bj42. If all goes well it could be available in about a year when I plan to recondition my transmission.

Where are you located?

sorry to be the layman here, but might help other mudders who read this if i ask the stupid questions...

why the need for the 40 specific top plate for an h55?
what difference will it make to how the h55 works, if any?

about to put a h55 behind my 12HT, and it will come out of a 70 series LC, hence my interest in this post, but as a newbie with transmissions, i want to at least understand the differences and need for the 40 specific top plate

The biggest difference is that it has the shift tower 3" forward of the 60/70 series top cover. There are also some height differences that affect clearances.

... Finally heard back from the original post'er for the top plate (name's Andrew). Trying to set up a skype call this week. Stay tuned!

Just be patient....stalk your prey quietly, scan MUD late at night, become bleary eyed scrolling through CL ads, visit Gumtree, contact your mysterious unknown friends on the other side of the world....and wait patiently like a vulture, or Snoopy your choice, ready to pounce at the mere whiff of the illusive 40 Series TopPlate. Is it a ghost, a phantom of time past? They say they are out there ....somewhere....waiting....

we're selling a 3b/H55F, 40 series top plate in the classifieds right now. Selling it because we scored a second set up & figured we'd pass one along to someone else. It is also the second & third 40 series top plate H55F's we've owned. So they are out there if you keep looking.

I’m interested please let me know,,.

The H55 in my 1970 FJ40 did require a little work, the trans tunnel was altered to fit the extra height and the split case shift lever is through the tunnel without a lot of trouble. The H55 shift lever did require a little alteration so it didn't hit the seats. The placement is very good now and the overdrive 5th gear is a dream on the highway.
