The Great Smoky Mountain Trail Ride will be May 13-18, 2013 at Coal Creek OHV Area ( Coal Creek OHV | OHV Trails | Campground | ATV Riding | Adventure | ATV/OHV Sport Events | Off-Road Riding | East Tennessee Mountains | Windrock | OHV | Rock Crawling | Rock Climbing | Mud Bog | Poker Run ). With the 300+ miles of trails we can return to the all day trail rides of the past, and here you can come for 6 days and ride new trails every day whether you are a stock beginner or a hard core buggy. This area is not Tellico but has dense forests and beautiful mountain views everyone should enjoy. We will be providing guided trail rides and for the more adventurous the park has excellent maps and the trails are well marked.

We will as always offer primitive camping with your registration; we will camp at Windrock Park Campground and will be using the event area and the camping area next to it, with access to the restrooms and showers. If you want more than tent camping, the park offers -4 man bunk cabins with a bath room and kitchenette, they have some really nice 8 man cabins and full RV hook ups, all close to the event area. These cabins will go fast so remember to reserve them early. The camping is 2 miles from the trail head by paved road or 2.2 miles by a dirt road for those that are not street legal. Here is the link to the campground- Windrock Park | Campground | East Tennessee Mountains | OHV Trails | RV Park | Mountain Cabin Rental | Primitive Camping | Windrock | ATV Riding | Off-Road | OHV | Adventure and this is the Park layout http://www.windrockpark.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/WindrockPark-2.pdf there is a road that is not shown on the layout that goes from the event area gate up to the additional camping area.

More to come as we get closer to opening registration in January . We will continue to have the Friday night cook out and the catered meal and Raffle on Saturday evening.

You should call 2014 GSMTR -- Back to the Future. . . (Ahem,) "Where we're going, we don't need roads."

GSMTR article in this month's TT. Thanks for the nice write-up HH.

UC reserved the #2 side of the duplex for Thursday thru Sunday. Looking forward to coming.
Good thinking Troll, GSMTR will be here before you know it at those cabins fill quickly that time of year.

Registration opens 1 Jan and there will be a notice telling people to reserve their cabins early. There are only 4 large cabins and 10 bunk cabins. The park will be open to the public, so we will not be the only ones reserving cabins, so reserve yours now.

Roger,
I had hoped to be able to attend the fall meeting at Cool Creek to check out the trails, cabins and the area in general, but that does not appear to be possible now so I need to replan.
The Coal Creek website info on the cabins is weak with regard to fully describing the cabins, but the cost structure is well defined. To assess the cabins, how far away are the hotels? Any advice or recommendations about the options available?

Thanks

The big hotels are in Oak Ridge about a 20 min drive I have not been in the big cabins but will try to look at them in Nov.

Thanks. I would appreciate that.

I just requested access. I don't know how much help I will be but I'll certainly do what I can.

Hey guys, I'm interested in joining you for next years GSMTR. I know Windrock very well and could possibly lead a group on the Black and double black trails. Let me know if you have any questions about the trails as I know them very well.

Any chance you could go on some of our "pre-runs" before the event next year? Maybe one or two more opportunities this year. Don't know about 2013 yet, but I guarantee there will be a few more then too.

Possibly. When are they?

Was planning on heading up there in mid Jan anyway.

Keep an eye on this Club Forum and the next run will be announced.

So how far are the cabins from the main area? Just trying to get an idea if I can ride the minibike back and forth or do I have to drive.

Maybe I missed a map on their site where it showed that?

Can the other people in our club camp around our cabin?

Anything you might want our club to do?

Are you getting a bunky cabin or one of the large ones? Id guess its maybe a quarter mile from the large cabins to the event area and the bunkys are in between. its a private rd so it would not be a problem to ride the bike on it (the atvs do). As far as camping around the cabins im not sure. maybe Roger can ask when hes up there in a couple weeks. As of now the only thing i have for the UC to do is show in large numbers :). Im sure we would welcome any other ideas you guys might have.

Goto Windrockpark.com and goto the camping section and at the bottom right there is a link labeled campground layout.
I have seen tents next tithe cabins , not sure if they would say anything or not. We had 14 people in 2 RV spots last weekend.

I was looking at this too. I've never been so I don't know the layout at all. I doubt that I'll be able to make a ride before the actual event.
