The proper and engineered part is always a beautiful sight in the Toyota world.
Says the crack dealer :D
Nothing feels better than putting on a new OEM part. :smokin:

I don’t sell anything.

I just discuss the “quality of experience” of engineered and manufactured spare parts.

Nothing more, nothing less.
I stand corrected :)

Had a chance to take the cruiser on its first real family outing to Orcas Island here in Washington. It was a great time and the cruiser performed flawlessly even with the leaking radiator.

It was a tad windy... but beautiful outside :)

We went to the grocery store and came out to find a man scoping out the cruiser. He saw the FF rear end and we started chatting cruisers (he apparently owns a few cruisers :)). Leave it a cruiser lover to wait in the parking lot to chat about cruisers with someone you don't know. Great guy and he built all the wood paneling on this truck by hand! Talk about skills!

Haven't been able to do a lot the past few weeks due to being sick and tons of work. Made a lot of progress on the modified alternator mount for the 90 amp alternator ( job) and picked up a OEM FJ62 radiator I had totally refurbished by Seattle Radiator Works. Purdy:

New radiator and alternator installed. Need to finish up a couple little things but almost done.

Lots of minor things going on and a good list of stuff still to do:
I was having some weird starting problems, alternator is new, no parasitic draw and upgraded ground and power cables made me cast doubt on my battery. I took the opportunity to go back to the group 27 size from the 34. Major difference.

Got a good deal on a dual batt system I couldn't pass up. Need to get a new tray for the left side and make some cables now! Blue Seas 7622 unit:

New bulb in the center console, what a difference!

List of major things I need to do soon:
Take off the steering box and get a new unit from Red Head Steering Gear. My unit is already leaking but they are going to cover it under warranty. Completed!

Remove the sketchy butt joints on my ignition harness and try to solder them in situ. :worms:

Put on new 80 series rear wiper arm and blade. Thanks to @NookShneer

Install more OEM grab bars on the A and B pillars and install new 80 series rear shoulder belts.

Onward!

Re-sealed box back in the cruiser. RedHead fixed it while I waited in the office. Great service and hopefully no more trouble. :steer:

Just binge read your entire build. Mightily impressed by your work and attention to detail. Left me quite inspired and even answered quite a few questions for me that I had for my 60. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Thank you! Still a long ways to go but its a fun journey! :)

I just noticed this post. Was it Gary Sisson, owner of Mt. Picket Woodworking, that you met in the parking lot on Orcas Island? He's a good guy. He used to be here on mud until the housing economy went bad in 2008 and he sold his FJ45 to carry his business through the bad times. This is a shot of him being an engine compartment gnome. ;)

Some small updates since its been a while:

Yeah! It was Gary. He was super nice and great to talk to. Wish I could have chatted with him more. I found his website, he does some amazing work.... obviously that woody hints at his skills

Just noticed your air pump is gone. Did you use the Dayco belt replacement 22528 or another brand?

I am actually still running an air pump for now. That photo was taken before it was reinstalled after the new alternator install. I will likely take out the system soon to make room for the dual battery setup.

@Kleatus is running a 3FE without an air pump. Maybe he can chime in with the belt he is using.

Geez I have not updated this in a while. Lots of little projects and an annoying AC issue that is likely fixed ( FJ60 A/C problems need advice!! ). Projects on the near to do list are :
Rear 80 series shoulder belts
Install rear cargo sliders
Finally wire up heated seats
New stereo install

Went and picked up a spare 3FE top end today. Going to tear it down and clean it up :)

Not sure what year 3FE if came off of, looks to be a later one (at least not an early 88). @beno can you tell it’s age based on it’s casting numbers? Part number 61080 , then a separate 8 10 24 .

61080 is the correct casting for a 3F/3F-E.

10/24/1988
Awesome! Thank you. I had a feeling you would know.
