I had one of these in my 81 FJ40. Hmmmmm....I sold 1 of the SOR grab handles (discontinued and hard to find), but I still have 1 more, plus that longer grab handle in the pic.

That real estate is occupied by a dash pad on most trucks. The wider span of the ConFerr design was aimed to clear the top lip of the glovebox door AND sit below the dash pad.
The ConFerr grab bar was one of the first modifications I did to the 40 back in 1995. Someone should copy the design and reproduce these. My wife at the time was 5'2" and struggled to get into the cruiser without it. She's long gone but the grab bar still resides there. That real estate is occupied by a dash pad on most trucks. I have a dash box in mine so the Icon won’t fit. I just like the 45 degree bends and hidden stud mounting. I think I will make one similar that is a little deeper so it can sit below my dash box and still allow the glove box to open. That real estate is occupied by a dash pad on most trucks. Are you going to move the 3 on the tree to the left side so you don’t have to take right arm off of her to shift too? My Dad tells stories of the good old days. Simpler times do seem way better.I vote go with a bench seat and tell whatever woman is riding with you to slide over, grab onto you, and hold on tight!

Question.......What is the "black cap" that is covering the huge vent hole in the windshield? Looks like a great way to keep the heat moving up to the glass instead of coming out of the holes.I used a 64' grab bar on my 74'
The holes were already under the dash pad... the grab bars were used throughout production (but not NA cruisers)... and think they are still available btw
Pic one is my truck
Pic two is a late model with one from factory
Pic three is a new grab bar
