i would be very interested in one.

do you take paypal?

nice

I like it, I have been thinking of doing something very similar myself

if I could add a suggestion I would say use flush rivets and that leaves it open to cover with the vinyl coverings that are being used now for camo or like carbon fiber or leather etc.

Just saw an rx-7 with the stuff applied at a local shop and it looked like a stock carbon fiber job

nothing wrong with what you got there just thinking options:cheers:

Not yet. I haven't ever seen one with middle heater so you might post a picture so I can see.

Sweet, it contrast well with the black. Have you had anyone ask to build one for an 82? It's the one that has the heater located in the middle of the seats.

Yes Paypal would be fine.

If I get 3 or more people interested I'll confirm my intent to build some and collect $$$$$. I was wanting to make sure I don't have a huge piece of aluminum in the garage with nothing to do with it.

Yes I want one too sent you a pm

I'm not sure what you envision for over your rear heater so I'd hate to commit to something that might not meet your expectations.

If you can put together a sketch with measurements then I could give you a better idea.

As for the cushion, I'd prefer to let you add those as you see fit since everyone probably has a different color preference, etc....

I would like a console that would fit over my stock 1981 rear heater and has a cushion pad on top.....or is that asking too much?

do you have a pic of the bottom where it mounts

i have a custom cage and seat craddle i may need to send you measurements and pics etc..

can you make it so i can mount a stereo like the tuffy

The problem with the 81 and 82 is if you run the heater, the encloser acts as a heatsink. And it may have to be a little taller to make it wortwhile, otherwise, you can only store small items. But that could be good too depending on the persons needs. I guess big enough to store sun glasses and an ipod. I have pics of the heater somewhere, still looking.

Here are some pics of the console with the heater located underneath. The sun has gotten after the console since it's topless.

Here are some measurements of the oem console, along with pictures. fjwagon's console is identical to mine, only mine is currently out of the vehicle.

The plastic console is attached to the heater by four screws on the top of the heater itself. Im working on removing the plastic console from heater now, but I will need to drill out the four screws on the top.

dimensions WxLxH = 7 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 6 1/2"

What are the dimensions of your console?

Is that from a fj40... what year? Based on the measurements and pictures, the length on this would be an issue for trying to equip it with cup holders and still have room for storage. With the sliding control on the back you'd have to try and build a replacement for the entire plastic unit.

While I'd love to build one, I'm not sure I'd take it on without having the vehicle to look at things. I'll see if CruiserCorps here in OKC might have one that I could take a look at.

My console is 22L x 7H x 6.5W. The bottom section where the cup holders is 8 inches long before it starts to rise.

The console shown is from my 1981 FJ40 and is oem.

I thought about fanning around the plastic louvers and lever. Your measurements aren't too far off actually.

My FJ 40 has a center console with Tuffy cup holders which are great.
Would be interested in the rear cup holders if the price was reasonable.

Update; install.

I mounted the console today and made a few upgrades.

I installed a strip of trim to the edges of the console to help w/ rattles.
I also placed bolts (instead of rivits) on the front mount to help w/ rattles as well.
I ground the bolts flush so they wouldn't hinder the height issues.

This is a very nice upgrade and I'm glad I made the purchase. After the install it's fairly quiet, I tested it. I need to finish it off w/ a thick piece of black carpet inside.

This is a nice unit and I like it. Thanks NikP. ;)
