Thats pretty low, I dont remember you saying it was that low.

I measured it last night - it's only 20.5" off the ground at the frame. Like I said, it's very low for running 37" Iroks. By comparison my FJ55 buggy running only slightly larger 38.5's is 28" at the frame. The COG in the FZJ40 is remarkably low, it's very stable.

I actually lowered the FJ55 buggy 2" earlier this year. (from 30" to 28") I was going to lower it more, but in the rediculously large rocks the buggy gets into the extra ground clearance is worth the trade off in COG.

What is the latest on this 40 ? Did a steel top ever get made to fit ? anymore recent wheelin pics ?

garage queen. :flipoff2:

LOL! Normally I would deny such allegations, but it has been in the garage most of the winter. I drove it all last winter, even without a top. This year my schedule has changed and I pick up the kids on my way home from work - got a few scathing glances from other parents as I bundled my kids in 30 degree weather to ride home in a topless 40 and parked it.

I did wheel it hard at every event I went to last year. Layed it on its side (gently) at GSMTR, and hit few trees/rocks. Took it to Rausch creek for CMCC and shredded the tires... wheeled the cove in Gore VA but had the kids with me so it was pretty mild. I did put enough scratches in it that it will look funny with freshly painted doors and hard top.

I have made progress on top and doors, but am not finished yet. Basically it's all either in primer or waiting for Ryan to get off his lazy ass and put some primer on it. My wifes car needs to go in for service and I asked her whether she wanted to drive the superduty or excursion and she says, "is the top done on the 40 yet?"

Yeah, I need to get back on track with this project... it's harder now that I don't need it for another 6 months...

that damn lazy ass ryan, he gets it from his dad. :grinpimp:

Spending time doing stupid stuff like this doesn't help either...

(all I had to do was gas and go the buggy for GSMTR but I did have this "extra" corvette motor and marlin crawl box lying around...)

 this it's a real funny comment based in all us sickness ..

I want to buy that FZJ40 ...........

I want his garage - complete with sick FZJ40, that FJ55 and any other 'extra' bits that might be lying around! sheesh ... this is the stuff dreams are made of! :)

Personally I would have thought it cool to see a pimpin 40 roll up to pick the kids up. I wanna get the truggy just legal enough to go to the store and stuff myself.

Trent, something about this statement just doesn't sound right :p

I said legal "ENOUGH" :flipoff2:

Antique plates dont require inspections anymore here in Texas (my white 60 has them) but I think they may pull me over faster if I obviously dont have tail lights and stuff  and technically with the antique plates it can only be driven to and from events, club meetings, shows, or for maintenance. But I have seen people DD vehicle with them so whatever.

I think something like this Peterson LED Trailer Light — Red 4in. Round Light, Model# V417KR-5 | LED: Stop, Turn + Tail Lights | Northern Tool + Equipment in the tailgate would be perfect for lights and stuff. If I break them out I can easily replace them and they are cheap. and with the rubber surround its even easier to change.

But I will stop skanking up this thread... Even tho progress on this truck has ceased for the time. :flipoff2:

So the question remains.....are you making it to CM11 with the FZJ40?? Inquiring minds wanna know - as we're all IPOR copy-cats anyways!

Thanks for the advice on the FJ80/40 buildup....will let you know how things are going in CO - Hit me up if/when you're driving thru CO!

No Moab trip this year. I made the rounds last year in the 40, going to try to get the corvette motor into the 55 buggy and take it to a couple events this year.

Next year we're looking at making a trip out to Flat Nasty and hitting half a dozen other parks on the way back. Going to try to get the whole IPOR crew to go and I may bring the 40 on that trip.

Just curious....is the hard-top making its way onto the FZJ40 this winter...or just a trip to TheNorthFace for another layer?

Looking to see more photos of it - whether it's wheeling or just sitting in the garage!

What are you working on now, that you have your dream-Cruiser?

I see that Aqualu has the 18" stretched FJ40...looks really close to your version - wondering if you'd choose that route if you were to do it all over again....thoughts??

I made some progress this spring and had made arrangements to paint it but that plan fell through. I have minor body work remaining on the fiberglass, the rest is already in primer. I don't know when I'll be able to paint it... may need to do it myself!

Just do it! it will only take a couple cans of spray paint. The problem is if you "do it" then the project will be done... what fun is that?

No real project is ever truly "done".
