Easy side is pretty much done, now on to the rats nest on the intake side.
I’ve discovered along the way that my heat shields are pretty much shot and barely hanging on. I’ll be looking for both soon. Let me know if you know of any.

So everything is back together. Took it for a test run. On a positive note, it fired up ok, no leaks, temp and pressure gauges look good. Unfortunately though, I have a serious mis in the engine and lack of power.

I think I found the problem. #5 plug was smashed down. I re-gapped it and things have smoothed out. I’m sure there may be other stuff to fine tune but I’m feeling much better at the moment.

Nice find. Might be worthwhile to gap all the plugs while you're in there. It's a good rule of thumb to clean the tips and gap plugs every time they're out of the head.

Yeah I should’ve double checked just before I re-installed them. I looked them over pretty good back when I took them out. Back in one of my earlier pics, you can see that #5 looks fine back then. I wonder if it fell off the table at some point...:hmm:

In a related story, I don’t think a stack of empty ziploc bags have ever looked so good!!!

Just wanted to say Thanks to everybody for their words of encouragement along the way!

So the spark plug fixed the mis-fire issue but I still have a severe lack of power upon acceleration. I do have a CEL code now for the knock sensor. I did break the knock sensor during the disassembly and I then subsequently replaced it with a cheap aftermarket one I found online. It appears that this one isn't working at all. Anyone have an OEM / DENSO they would be willing to sell? I was going to order the DENSO ones from China that some have had good success with however they take about 6 weeks to get here, so I took a chance on the cheap-readily-available one... I can go ahead and order the DENSO / China and perhaps replenish someone's inventory when they come in. Let me know if you can assist. Thanks!

Update: I took out the NEW knock sensor, put my old one back in and then reattached the clip to the exposed prong as a temporary solution. It appears to be holding OK for the moment. I also replaced a O2 sensor that I knew was bad. With those two items addressed I am officially CEL-code-free. The truck ran great all day and was even good enough to pass inspection. On Wed the 2nd new knock sensor should arrive and I'll make the permanent swap. It felt good to be back in the saddle today driving around! :steer:

Thats awesome news!

It’s that time of year again. Oh yeah!

I figured a few updates were in order...

Good news: The new OEM knock sensor was installed and the Engine is still running strong. I get a slight flutter at times when idling but there is no perceivable issues / loss in power. I would love to figure that out the flutter at some point, but overall, I would say the HG job was a success!

Aggravating news: Sometime during the camping trip posted above (in May), I managed to back into a tree. How much damage can you do at 5 mph you may ask? Apparently quite a bit. I was clever enough to back up at just the perfect angle so that maximum destruction could be done to the passenger rear quarter panel. A few inches to right and the bumper would have stopped me. A few inches to left and it would just have affected my fender flare. Fortunately I had the miniature tail light damage-multipliers on. They helped cave things in a extra inch or two. I would love to blame this on the wife, kids, or a new species of jumping-trees but unfortunately it was just me not checking my mirrors enough. Anyhow, below is a pic or two of the mis-adventure. :frown:

Fortunately the universe created JB weld and provided me with a friend that does dent removal. That joker knows his stuff. So ultimately I was able to repair the fender flare clips and reattach the molding and my buddy worked some absolute magic on the fender. I don't have a great pic but this will give you some idea. It ain't perfect but it's pretty dang good from where I started:

Now I owe him a huge favor, but I don't have to live with a pit in my stomach everytime I look at the LC.
