Getting these chopped up bows back into working order. They were modified to fit a 25 now going back to 40.

Heya @RustyNailJustin are those stock FST mirrors on your rig or retrofits from other models?

Factory 40 mirror but you will need to ask the pros on if this was a FST mirror

Factory mirror soft top mirrors were the same on hard top and soft top in the US market. 68 model they bolted to the door hinge. Windshield hinge mounted mirrors were never imported to the US market and not sure they were ever mounted to windshield hinge from the factory in any market. Seems funny they moved to the door hinge in 68 on the soft doors with easy removable hinges but they did. Wonder what they would have done on the 77 if they imported a soft top.

This is interesting. Been slowing putting back together a 75 fst and was wondering tonight where the mirrors would have gone from the factory. So they would have been mounted to the soft doors?

Weren't mounted to the windshield hinge, no holes in the A pillar. My 73 FST I bought in 94 had mirrors on the doors.

@JohnnyC can probably provide Toyota sale literature showing the mirrors on the hinge.

Last year selling the FST was 75' in continental USA ... they continued to sell FST thruout production

Hard door bows as you guys have seen in previous post (pic from @SouthBostonFJ40 ) are different from soft door bows

Here are some pics of factory/dealer door hinge mirrors FST... as requested :)

Wish they would pay my gas for 6 months now :meh:

How buying a soft top model for $3,334 today? By the date guessing this was a 73 model. I shouldn't complain bought my 73 FST in 94 for $1,000. Just a fluke I was talking Land Cruisers with someone and guy said Land Cruiser, you want to buy another one? Had just bought one the month before and surprised this one didn't cause a divorce.

Interested in the story behind what 25 they were being modified for? Soft top model the B pillar forward are quite a bit different. I have two sets of early soft top bows with enough forward pieces to make a couple more sets.

Wasn't sure if those cut or how they cut to ship. Ehsan bows looked like that.

I am glad you asked because it made go actually look. I bought them off a fellow member. I found a picture of the truck they were on? Or at least in this picture and it's an early 40. The B pillar post had been cut off and moved to the inside. Pretty nasty hack job.

These b pillar posts were cut off at some point and welded to the inside. Are these from an early 40?

I don't know where your bows are from. The color looks like those coming from Pakistan.

Seen this approach before trying to make later bows work on a early soft top. My approach would be different. First you need a OEM set of early bows to use as a pattern. Second you need two rear bows and one of the middle section cross bows to modify. Two back bows because the mounting system on the early bows on the front is the same as the back with the offset. Front to back bows need to be longer and 3/4" conduit flatten on the ends will work. Third and the hardest is finding a sheet metal shop that will break the section for over the doors and piece that is welded the B pillar bow. Years ago someone had a shop break some but was not interested in doing more.

Subject was covered starting almost twelve years ago. FJ25 and Early FJ40 Soft Top Project.

Good info! I bet you are right on the bows being Pakistan. There is not any signs of these ever being painted or sand blasted been bare steel.

Door bow you can see where it is split in the middle (easier shipping) tell tail sign from Pakistan ... can't really see the back bow if it is also separated in the middle Also there usually is an extra tabs for the ambi door bow to attach on the back bow

Didn't they also come with the extra bow sometimes for the ambulance doors. I debated a few years ago getting the upper pieces of the ambulance doors SOR had in the clearance section and modifying them to open the opposite way to work on a early soft top tub with barn doors. The lack of the replacement canvas probably for the best didn't get them. Looked longer for the replacement canvas than the 40 series H55F top cover and pretty much given up on both. Just getting too old.
