So we’re gonna take the 100 to Florida next month, and I figured now is as good a time as any to get some maintenance done and get some of these parts off my shelf.

Gonna line it up to do an oil change, front and rear brakes/rotors, thermostat, coolant flush, drive belt, alternator, and transmission flush before we hit the road. It might also need an A/C recharge but it’s hard to tell when it’s 95° outside and takes forever to cool the cabin down. Pictures to follow!

Did a small thing today. Picked up a new fuel filter since the one that’s on it has filtered thousands upon thousands of gallons of fuel. For $39 it’s piece of mind knowing it’s been replaced! Fuel filters are always something I like to change when I buy a new to me vehicle, and for those of you it might have inspired to do to your own 100, the part number is 23300-50090.

Finally got around to doing this… and it couldn’t have gone much longer! Both of these were so bad that they just crumbled and broke off into the heater hoses… which made the job much more tedious. But now they’re fresh and ready for many more years of service!

Been down with the sickness again for the past few months and haven’t been able to do much with the 100 besides drive it. It’s veryyyy close to 300k club right now, I’d say it’ll be there before summertime since I don’t drive a whole bunch of long distances.

Been eyeballing some new wheels and a couple other things for the interior lately to freshen it up. New leather seat covers and carpet wouldn’t be a bad idea, these are starting to show their age, and really they’re the only thing in the interior that needs attention because this thing was taken really good care of in its lifetime. Since I plan to keep it even when I eventually upgrade to a 200 or a diesel 100, I’d like to keep this one as nice as I can for future use! Anyway here’s a picture to hold it down for me while I gather up parts to post pictures of!

Finally got around to doing my rear pads, shims, rotors today. Been starting to hear metal on metal and I finally had good enough weather today to put them on. I usually never let brakes get this bad, and what’s worse is I’ve had these parts for months now. Oh well, they’re sorted now so that’s all that matters. I’ve got to get a few more little bits and pieces before I do the front brakes, but they’re not nearly as worn as these rear ones were. Figured I’d go ahead and do the wheel bearings, front sway bar links, and possibly the axles too while I’m at the front and have it all apart, will update soon as I get the stuff.

Preparing for a huge amount of work to be done with the cruiser. I’ve been feeling much better lately, so I’m just getting the time and resources together to get done with the following for my 300,000 mile special;

- Timing belt and all associated parts
- OEM valve cover gaskets
- OEM alternator
- OEM starter
- OEM CV axles and seals
- OEM pads/shims/rotors
- Brake fluid exchange (possibly lines too, the rears were ok, but I’m not 100% sure on the condition of the fronts til I get it apart)
- OEM front hub/wheel bearing (this is completely unnecessary but I’ll just refresh the ones that are on it now and keep them for spares or replacement later if needed)
- Front sway bar link rebuild
- Transmission fluid exchange and strainer replacement (also unnecessary, but I wanna pull the pan to inspect everything anyway and if I’m that far into it I might as well just put a new one in there)
- Power steering fluid exchange and reservoir clean
- Ironman stage 2 nitro lift

I will document with pictures and updates as we go through with everything. After this work, the 100 will be basically completely baselined and be ready for spring and summertime trips!

I'm interested to see what maintenance you do with the transmission and what yours looks like when you inspect with the pan off.

Me as well. The previous owner said he kept fresh fluid in it every 30k miles and recently did a service tbh I believe him based on the fresh looking orange FIPG on the pan, and the way the transmission functions. I don’t have any cold/hot shifting issues, nor do I have any noise. I’ll make sure to put pictures up of all that stuff in a few days when I get the job started. Gonna have a friend help me this Saturday if all goes to plan.

EDIT: I had considered sending off a sample to black stone for analysis, I’ll keep a little in a bottle and decide on that once I see the fluid itself.

Lift is ordered, should be here next week sometime. Decided on the Ironman stage 2 nitro lift instead of the foam cell pro purely based on budget. I’m not too concerned with the potentially firm ride, I’ve ridden in a few 100’s with OME sports and didn’t mind the ride they gave.

I will be salvaging what I can from the AHC system and wouldn’t care to sell the parts to somebody in need for cheap. I’ll update here what I’ve got left over and if you need it, just DM me.

Apart from that, got my transmission fluid loaded up in the truck and getting ready for a full interior detail this afternoon after a long nasty winter here in East TN. More to come soon :)

Fluid came out looking great still! Just a little cloudy but still nice and red with no smells or anything strange. Magnets in the pan look like they were most likely cleaned last time the pan was down, and only had a little paste on them, no chunks or anything out of the ordinary (there’s some old gasket material on them in the photo).

New strainer is going in and putting new FIPG on now to let it set up before we do the rest of the fluid exchange. It’s a WIP, so more pics to come in a bit.

Got a busy next couple weeks coming up!

The lift should be here before the weekend, the timing belt/wp/alternator and associated parts will be done Saturday, and I’ll be trying to get the hubs/wheel bearings/sway bar links/front brakes done while I’ve got the front end apart for the lift install. After that, the parts installs should slow down a little and hopefully I’ll just spend some time driving it and take it on a few weekend trips.

I did however discover that my factory muffler was absolutely destroyed and about to rust in two and become a hazard. Got under the truck this morning to investigate a bad buzzing/tapping noise when I’d have the truck in drive and at a complete stop. I found it pretty odd at how bad the rust damage was considering that the truck doesn’t have any rust underneath it besides that, and all the damage was located on top of the muffler between it and the body of the truck. Gonna find a suitable muffler replacement tomorrow and get that put back in there because it sounds like a clap trap with just headers and mid pipes on it right now. Thankfully I’ve got a short trip to and from work and shouldn’t be too much of a risk driving it like that for a day or two while I get it sorted out.

Edit: added a picture of it as it sits in the driveway ft. The ol’ Bronco (my brothers 4wd of choice)!

I believe after going back and forth for a few days about what to do with the exhaust, I’ve landed on replacing the cat back with the Tanabe Revel system. I thought about the magnaflow unit as well, and it seems to be of decent quality, but the revel system seems to be a little better put together with better materials, and on top of that, they offer a turn down pipe for the muffler, which interests me! From all the videos I’ve watched (there aren’t that many) the exhaust adds a nice tone to the truck and isn’t overbearing. I plan to upload a video also hopefully showing what it sounds like.

Gotta get the rest of this stuff done before I can get the exhaust on the way, then I hope we’re done for a while with the buying of parts! It’s springtime now, and adventure weather is just around the corner!

The little delivery fairy dropped off some goodies today! This isn’t all the boxes but I’m super pumped to get this rolling (no pun intended)!

Truck is looking great 🤙

i know how much time you spent on cleaning up that transmission sealing surface. Just recently did that myself

Thanks! Yeah that orange FIPG does not mess around, though I’m noticing a small drip of transmission fluid at the rear corner after getting it done and I’m thinking I may have to take the pan back off and straighten it out. May have gotten a little out of whack when the pan was being pulled off, it was certainly STUCK on there!
