Picked up a little CruiserCrap bling at the LSLC meeting Tuesday, figured it would give me some motivation to install the H55 ...

I've been amassing parts for the transmission swap, picked up a Asco clutch last week from another forum member ;)

Posted this in the "what did you do to your pig today" thread, but wanted to have the pics here too. Installed some early FJ80 buckets I picked up from CruiserYard with grey Great Covers Endura seat covers I snagged in the classifieds:

Sorry about the crappy iPad pic, I was too lazy to get a better camera after finishing Friday night ;) You can also see the results of this little LED jem I picked up off Amazon in the pics:

Direct swap into the dome light and totally worth $5. Now I need to figure out how to make the back seat match the fronts, Great Covers only makes rears for 60s and I'm not sure if the $OR grey will match :frown:

Hey Nice,

Tell us some more about that. Is it a tuffy box? I like the cup holders.

It's the Smittybuilt, looks like its going to work great other than the heater height (mount that comes with it not tall enough). Will either fab something up or delete the rear heat (not like you need it in Texas), haven't decided yet.

Nice unit for the money -

So is the Smittybulit @ the same dimensions ( width and height ) as the tuffy. I like the looks of your's better.

So I finally got around to figuring out why the 55 has been leaking oil like a stuck pig, looks like I stuffed the front diff up into the oil pan notch :( The pan has more or less a L-shaped notch on the PS, you can see a concave dent the same curve as the pumpkin in the bottom and the upper portion is pushed up. The last part is my issue, it moved enough to separate the brass braise around the edge. Damn, I just put a new gasket on the bastid a few months ago (a hundred Allen head bolts holding it on). Looks like I'll be pulling it back off again ...

I've also been pulling apart the crusty '81 40 rear axle I bought and cleaning it up, remind me not to buy any more east coast crap! Time for a cold one ...

So I've slowly been collecting parts for my next project, should have some progress in a few weeks ;)

  • H55
  • Aisin clutch kit
  • 5-speed shifter
  • 5-speed oiler cup
  • 12mm-1.25x170mm bolts
  • 12mm-1.25x125mm bolts
  • Split-case gasket set
  • FJ60 cross member
  • FJ60 tranny mount
  • FJ40 drum ebrake axle
  • Extended ebrake cable
  • Axle gasket and seals

:bounce:

Nice axle.

What's the story on the TREs?

Thanks - the TREs are Joint Fuji which is as good as you can buy aftermarket. The steering link isn't made anymore and is pretty hard to come by. I had contacted Mark about his custom steering link he was making (really short cross link) for these, he was out but had this stashed away;-)

How's the height on the 80 seats?

Good - the manual seats have a pretty thin base.

How'd you fit the 80 seats?

My truck had the stock brackets removed and van seats installed when I got it, I was able to mount these to the same bases.
