Re: the craigslist add. . . . Nothing appears to be from a 79. The bezel is pre-79' and everything else appears to be pre-79, too. I wonder what the title actually goes with???
 
3 speed too which would be an early 70s truck. Disc brakes and 2f would be a later truck. Also way too cheap. Probably take your money and then feed you to the gators.

Edit: says is has a "clean" title...
 
Yeah, front disc brakes and "rare breaks drums turned" I know I am not a 40 guy but I really didn't know the drums were rare...

There are some crazy things on that one. 77-78 top with a hatch and not barn door. No swing out doors or tailgate. Looks to be covered over.

FST doors converted to window regulators from the early hard doors. Diamond plate floor boards. That being said it's still a 40 and a decent price if it runs. But a ton of work if your wanting to put it back to original.
 
(The tank is no longer available)When I started working on my 1978 FJ40, I went through the fuel system. I bought a tank cleaning kit and sealer kit from Eastwood to clean the tank after reading bad reviews about the poly replacement tanks that were available. I also didn't want to spend $600 or so on a factory replacement. I say all that so say I cleaned it up with all stages of the cleaner but stopped short of sealing it. I still have the tank sealer in my garage somewhere. I then found a replacemt steel tank and bought one after all. So... I have my original fuel tank available if anyone wants it. It is clean of rust other than flash rust that may have happened after I cleaned and etched the inside of the tank. I don't have room for it to just sit around my garage. I wouldn't mind trading someone for some other 40 parts but if someone wants or needs it, just let me know.

I am certainly no expert but isn't a turbo charged engine different than a supercharged engine? I see there this one says it has a turbo but for some reason, I thought turbo was exhaust related and supercharged was intake related. :hmm:

Yes the owner is clearly confused, likely not very mechanically inclined. It is obviously a factory TRD super charger. Wonder what the miles are on it.
 
If that's a supercharger, that is a good deal. A buddy of mine priced one a few years back for his Tundra and it was sveral thousand dollars.
 
I e-mailed the guy about the 97 80 on CL. The response:

A turbocharger and supercharger are both forms of forced induction, packing more fuel/air mixture in the cylinder each rotation. Pretty much both are air pumps. THe supercharger is powered by a belt (in most cases) on the front of the motor. The turbocharger is driven by exhaust spinning an impeller that spins a shaft with another impeller on the intake side.
