I want a more period look and am thinking of getting a set OEM 60 chromes and having them stripped and podercoated gray. I am just not feeling the aluminum wheels on there. Has anyone done this or does Toyota sell them that way already?

it would be a shame to strip the chrome FJ60 wheels and paint them grey.......... why not just bolt on a pair of FJ40(disc brake) wheels with the stock hub caps. Quite a few have done this and if will give you that old school look!!

thats a good thought- Iwas just looking at that option. I guess I am just anti chrome. Would a 70 series rim fit on a 60?

I would belive so..... they are disc front drum rear just like a 60; but I am not as familiar with the diesel cruisers

Check out britklr in the 60series forum. He's got a black and silver 60 he just put the silver painted wheels on, looks good. He's even got the part numbers for everything you'd need. The Link

Based on the 70 series trucks I have owned, the wheels will fit a 60 because they are the same chrome steel wheel that came on 60s. The painted 'version of the 60' wheel did come on later production 40s (est. '81-'84) and some solid axles mini-trucks if that is an option you are interested in. I think the challenge will be locating what you want (it appears that most people disposed of the factory wheels for aftermarket and the steelies went to recycling). A remote option is I recall that SOR had new white wagon wheels in stock some time back, but the price was a non-start for me. Good luck.

PS I also prefer the factory steel wheels and have them under all my trucks (except the 80 has the factory Al wheels under it)

You may want to call Rick Hayes as well, especially since Britklr listed part numbers, remember you get a discount!

I like Britklr's look. I will call Cdan and see about painted 60 wheels. I want to keep my current tire size.

Those are 40-55 wheels he has. Hub caps can be bought new from Toyota (RHT) for around 100.

Any reason you need to buy brand new rims if you are going to have the powdercoated or spray bomb'd? I have a set of stock steel 62 rims for sale.

The CDan discount is the same as Ralph Hayes...and shipping will be cheaper if in SC. I got my stock 55 wheels and hubcaps from Rick at RH for $80 a wheel and $20 a cap.

thats not bad at all- I may have to wait until I need tires again as I have to wide a tire for steelies right now. I should have gone 33x9.5- but you know what they say about hindsight.

Adam-

ANTI-CHROME!!! $$%#@!&* Oh well, give me a call tomorrow when you get into town. I am helping a friend buy a car (maybe an FJ Cruiser), so call me on my cell 828+606*9689 when you get to the radio shop. Maybe we can find some lunch!

haha no offense prez. Ron called me and still has not received my stereo in yet- I am probably looking at next weekend. I was looking at my current wheels and wondered if you could powdercoat aluminum wheels?

I'd be really surprised if you could get a 12.50 on a 6.5 rim, and if you could, they would wear crazy fast. Plus, I don't think Adam's worried about losing a bead on the gravel roads...
