ok, great points, all of them, but why go through the trouble of swapping a modern gas sipping engine and what not when one can buy a modern, gas sipping vehicle from the get go. I saved fuel money by buying a diesel 60 but that's as far as i'll go.
I think most of us here want to just keep these truck on the road at any cost but i don't think that gas mileage is at the top of their list.

I don't think that mpg is at the top of the original posters list. Unique engine swap was what he was seeking. I am about to swap out my sbc 350/th350 engine for something that can do 60mph. Any engine I put in will get at least double the 10mpg I got with the 350.

A new truck costs about 40-90,000$ USD I have a 40,000$ budget to rebuild my 1982 fj60. Probably about half of what I need but its all the wife will give me. It makes little to no sense to me if doing a engine swap not to consider mpg. Flat torque curves and 300-400lbs of torque should be the main goals of a swap aside from being able to do the speed limit. I stopped driving my fj60 a few years ago due to getting pulled over doing 55 in a 70. I have never owned a 2f but I never could understand why it couldn't get power if a stovebolt can get power when they are nearly identical.

A twin turbo 2f would be a unuiqe swap to compound that.

Well said sir, well said. I stand corrected. (In secret, If i did not have my diesel i would go for the gm erod 5.3 as well)

My 3b has great MPG, like over 20 mpg on the highway loaded right up, even seen mid 20's.

But it's slow as snot. I would not replace this motor with the same one. I would upgrade. Most likely a diesel, cause it's diesel.

But when I had my 3fe 80 series I wanted that engine gone. Slow, and sucked gas so bad. In fact my heavier 5.4 excursion uses much less fuel.

The eco boost would be a good engine for a cruiser. But because the 5.3 Chev has been done so many times the road is well paved. The 5.3 will give a lot better mpg than any ship anchor 2f or 3fe. Plus like a million more HP.

The eco boost will not provide a huge increase of mpg over the 5.3. But it is lighter, and has more torque and more HP. It is a more powerful engine than a 5.3. It provides power like a diesel. Down low grunt which is why it would push a cruiser so nicely.

Like the 5.3, ford is making a million of these engines, so it will be common and fixes will be common for issues. Get parts everywhere.

What is needed is a really good fabricator who converts cruiser engines to give one a try and customer willing to for out 20k to get it.

yes. It’s made by Miller
Oh thanks FJACS, what a great resource!

Do you think Miller and yourself might be able to help a bit more? Or does your wizardry stop at the key board?

If you really want an adapter ship me a transmission. I have the resources to make things like this happen. It's not going to be any less then the cost any off-the-shelf transfer case adapter, I can promise you that

Where are you located?

looking at the back of each transmission I would start with the 4x4 transmission if I were building an adapter to the FJ60 split case. There's a $875 4x4 10r80 out of a wrecked 2018 3.5 F150 45 miles from me if you're serious

Just a warning to be aware and research. If the thought is to mate a manual to this engine be sure to make sure that you can actually divorce the engine ecu from the transmission or get a manual harness and computer. A lot of new setups are all tied together.

I've even tried to be encouraging instead of discouraging, and still no one does the daydream engine swaps

Try discouraging instead people hate that. O yea mf I'll show you....🐱

no one ever wants to seem to drop the $1k to put the transmission on my workbench let alone the cost of my design time, materials, machining  I would be happy to do it I think it would be a fun project

I’m working my way through, getting ready to pull the trigger but not quite there yet.
Cruisermatt, I’m sure I’ll be in contact! Im after the newer 2.7 ecoboost. 10 speed transmission seems Gucci but id Love a 6 speed manual.

This thread had me looking into this stuff a bit and that 10 speed looks incredible
