I hear you, I wasn't aware of your project ;) I had sent this info to a couple of local guys, one wanted a set and the other gave me the "I can make a homemade set for cheaper" response. I'm totally cool with people doing that, just didn't want this thread to regress there. We're a pretty do-it-your-self group and have to be since not much is made for these beasts, just didn't want to run off someone willing to make stuff for us;) Steve is a nice guy, I'm sure you guys could work together if he feels it makes sense ...

Don't know if this helps anyone with hole placement, but here's my panels.

I'd be happy to have them used for templates, but I'm not sure they're straight enough.

Tucker, same here. If I could purchase just the vynal Hell I pay the full amount. No intent on Mucking anything up. Just asking.

Thanks Bob.
No worries man - see my reply to Delancy above ;)

Sweet - I didn't have a rear set to send him since mine are plywood covered with carpet.

Which is OE and matches the OE seat pattern/color/scheme, right?

Is this "dark gray" a relatively close match to OE?

Yes.

Close enough for me. I like Tucker's panel colors, but if he will do the dark gray that is the coor I want.

I can do these panels in practically any color . The vinyl I use is an automotive grade but have access to marine grade as well.

If you want an or color match all you would have to do is send me a small clipping and I could match it very close if not exact.

I can provide the vinyl by itself but if the metal door panels are diamond stamped you would have to reverse them covering the smooth side. The trick would be getting the adhesive to work with the metal (non porous). The vinyl puts off plasticizer gasses that can interact with the glue causing it not to adhere.

NuclearBeef - would you consider allowing me to borrow your rear cargo panels to create a template?

Tucker originally stated in a previous post that the door panels even includes the retainers. This will only be accurate if the one's I sent will work for the fj55 application.

There are 64 of them just for the door panels. Don't know how is required for the rear cargo panels.

here's where it gets interesting and a touch confusing. there are at least two different left cargo panels. i have a couple of the lefts with low metal panels and one with a high metal panel (but two rigs that require high metals).

the 69 has no factory vinyl, but a high metal panel.
the panel i have for my 74 has a low metal panel on the vinyl piece

here is what i'm referring to.

here are my thoughts. i know i had another hi panel years ago because i was planning on making hardboard and recovering to match oem but found the offset clips and lack of correct shortness staples made it a bitch and gave up after doing one panel. i have black plastic that i will use in the 76 instead.

pighead says the extra warped set of lows aren't his so we think they came out of boss hogs 78.

i know the ones in the 76 are correct, they are high.

i know the 69 had high because the metal portion is the only part that's left (because a screw is stripped and will have to be drilled to get it out).

i think the low panels that i have for the pickle (72 or 73 or 74, i can't remember what it is) may have come from uglibus, which was a 78. i thought no way originally, because uglibus had been converted to a convertible and was sitting buried in snow when we picked it up, but i also got some parts from mike aaron shortly after he got rid of uglibus and may have gotten these panels then.

that said...i know the low panels match up clip wise to early models as i've had them in the pickle. i also know the lows match bosshogs 78 (which makes sense). they match the few holes that i can see on the 69, but the 69 has foam tape to dampen the wood panels that were in there and i haven't pulled that off to see if there are more holes underneath (the 69 appears to have less holes than later because of the tape)

so, a decision is to make the panels to match the high metal panels and the late model folks would have to convert, or make the panels to fit the low panels and the high panel folks (which there are more of) would have to modify, or make them completely flush (for no panel), which i think would be just fine because all the panel appears to do is allow a touch more room to keep the hose from contacting and rubbing and it seems well enough spaced anyways and anyone worried could modify and put the cover on.

another thing to keep in mind is early models didn't have the vent in the cargo panel. that would have to be like the ashtray, left empty and 74 and up would have to cut if you wanted to do a universal panel.
shown are the 78 filler, followed by the 69 filler

My '74 has the taller metal tunnel for the gas fill.

At this point I am all over the door panels, just want to see Tucker's assessment of the fit.

For the cargo panels, I would want to use the metal piece to clear my gas fill, and the vents.

Perhaps the cargo panels could all have the vent cut-out on the hardboard, and those who need it cut the vinyl themselves?

The cad drawings might be helpful...unsure.

On the Cargo panels...How long are they? Are they as tall as the Door panels?

Also, If you are interested in a set of panels, please pm me here on this site. It is very hard for me to answer questions on eBay if you seen it here and you want to order a set. There is a $25 cost difference between ordering these directly from me or ordering them on eBay.

Guppie,

I saved your Cad. file, in hopes of taking it to somebody that can cut out some alum. ones for me. Did they work good for you, everything ( holes ) in the right places.
