If you were looking for something else just let me know.

hey mate, cool write up, i was just wondering, if you knew the part numbers, just been having a look at the poly performance website, but its a tad confusing, cheers dave

Tapage,

Yes they are 39" Krawlers. I probably should have gone with the 37" but I was having a hard time finding them and I got a really good deal on these ;-) It was always my intention to cut the rear fenders, but everyone I talked to was a little nervous making it look good. The first time I saw a 55 with a really nice rear fender cut was when FRIZZLEFRY did his:

His cruiser is just plain sick. He did an awesome job, and maybe in the future I can steal some of his ideas.

In the future I would like to do the same thing, but right now I just want to get it on the road. It has been in the shop for 27 Months.

 27 month !!!!

On me it was a suicide attempt !

Ryan, that rig looks great! Get it out of Lance's shop and on a trail. I remember seeing that thing in the shop almost a year ago when i went to get a skid from him.

I would love to get this thing out of the shop. I am kind of at the mercy of IPOR. They are fitting me in their production schedule. I kind of understand, but it is very frustrating. There is a lot of hard work and reverse engineering going on.

Ryan.

First test drive of the 55 today!!! Everything worked great. The brakes were strong, steering worked well, 3 link had good street manners, only a couple of issues:

Headers glow red if fast idle ~2000-2500rpms
Puffs a little black smoke if you stomp on it.

These seem to contradict each other?

Here is a quick video clip, sorry there is no sound, we didn't know the microphone was messed up on the camera until after we had shot the videos.... but it sounds pretty awesome.

That Pig makes me moist.

Engine running lean and timing way advanced can cause the glowing header issue. Just the lean condition will cause this though. This is a OBD2 motor right? Pull the codes and see what it is there. It is nice to see your truck on the road, I am sure you are very happy.

John,

Thanks for the reply. I mentioned earlier that the confusing part was that the glowing headers leaned towards a lean condition, while the smoking under hard throttle seems like a rich condition. I have had the computer plugged into it and it reads in the safe zone (0%-5%) I did have some clogged injectors so I will try running some injector cleaner through it and if that doesn't clean it up a little I will have them cleaned. The computer isn't a stand alone unit so I don't have much adjustability as far as fuelling goes. I had to do some things that weren't recommended by TRD, just because of the amount of room under the hood. TRD cautioned me not to use a Cold Air Intake, because of its high flow, but I couldn't fit the stock Air box in the engine bay. If I have to I will restrict the air into the intake, with a prefilter, or by blocking the air tube.

Sorry for the long reply. I am pretty stoked, even though I have a lot to do, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ryan.

I've seen many headers glow red hot the first couple times they're are run.... I've been told that the computer hasnt "mapped" itself completely and within a few miles of operation the "glow" seems to dissipate due to the headers breaking in and the computer re-adjusting itself. I'd keep an close eye on the temps...

oh yeah, your cruiser makes my pants wet too. :)

Brokenparts,

Even though the headers were glowing, the temp was steady at 190 degrees. I did learn that it is almost impossible to light up 39" red label krawlers with full time four wheel drive. ;-)

So do the 39's stuff in the rear w/o rubbing? I have 35's on my pig and want to go to 38's or 39's but I didn't want to have to do what FRIZZLEFRY did (I love what he did but that's alot of work!)!

BTW VERY SWEET SWINE!!!

No the 39's don't really stuff fully into the wheel openings. I can fully stuff a 37" but I think that is mostly because the FZJ80 axles are 8" wider then the 55 axles. I really shouldn't have bought the 39's, but I got a good deal on them and it was a moment of weakness on my part. I am going to have to bump stop the rear axle with about 3.5" of up travel.

Ryan, you may want to try something like Bill did with restricted space under the hood of his fzj-80 (https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=105534). You can still fit the new style washable air filters from Toyota too.

Oh, and I'll trade ya my 37's for your 39's :grinpimp:

...and yes, AWD burnouts are tough :hillbilly:

Looks great by the way
