While perusing for sale ads in KSA I ran across this variation of a 40. I assumed it was a modification but I have now seen 2 or 3 others so maybe it was factory? Apologies if this is common knowledge but maybe the photo is worth the thread.

That's what I thought as well but I have ran across a couple of others for sale. Maybe it's a not so rare modification in the middle east?

i build one from a 40 top back in early 2000 , the pic you post is a 45 top , it have small corner glass , 40 corner glass is the same height as the side glass

Probably made with a 45 top. I like here those are a lot easier to find in the middle and will probably be the beige color already.would be curious how they filled in the area below the top. It is possible a dealer was buying new FST and ordering 45 hard tops and having these made and sold new as a special package. Or even a shop doing them. Confer use to pull the F engine and install a V8 then sell them new back in the sixties.

I did this on my Troopy, the 45 top fits well and easy to build a lower bulkhead! Toyota never did these from the factory.
