I have quite a few pages of 2UZ FSM, but I believe they are from an 03 with an a750 auto. Let me know if you want them.

Thanks for the offer! I'll take anything I can get. I will say I have read almost all of your build and it was amazing, gave me the confidence to start this project. I was shocked when your sold it. My weak point will be the wiring.

I do have a question on your build. Did you end up using the 2UZ power steering pump? or did you change it out for something else?

Got some more progress, got the engine mounts, and transmission crossmember. Also added another cross member by the front shackles.

This is a custom mount plate welded up to work with the Astro Van steering gear box. A little tight to the AC pump but should do the trick.

Next is working on mounting the gas tank from a 1995 S-10 Blazer. I fabricated up the tank straps. I guess I didn't take a picture of it, but on the straps I did put spacers on the bottom and places to bolt on a skid plate to protect the tank.

Found this Gem in the junk yard. A full float axle off an 80 series land cruiser. The plan is to cut all the brackets off and shorten the axle width to match the front which is 56", this will put the diff about 2" off center which will help line up the drive line when it comes time to do the drive shaft. On a side note upon taking it apart I have found the previous owner has gutted the parking brake internals. I see most the parts you can still get, but does anyone have a set of good used backer plates? I will rebuild and fab up these if I have to. The other fun part will be the axle shaft on the side I shorten. I thought originally I could use two of the short axle shafts, but the one side will still be a bit longer, so looks like I will be sourcing a custom one, or if anyone has experience cutting the center section and re-welding? I am very capable of welding, but these are heat treated, so where my weld is I assume it would almost be through hardened, which would not be ideal. I also did look at getting it shortened and re-splined, but the OD of the axle shaft is not large enough to re-cut the spline in afterwards, so that option is out.

Your frame looks great.
This the first time I have seen a Saginaw box mounted behind the front crossmember. It’ll be cool to see it all together.

Looks like youre doing some great work, thanks for sharing!

So the front axle is for the most part sorted out. I ended up cutting the long old berfs and tapping the center hole deeper with a cobalt tap. Then machined some custom washers and now The axle shafts should not drift inwards. This will allow me to use the aisin hubs that are common.

For the rear axle I was able to grind everything down, cut 7" out of the long side and the did case is fairly centered now, hopefully I can use two of the shorter axle shafts.

Love this build! Lots of different things going on here, most everything which has been done before, but not many taking this path these days (astro box, s-10 tank, centered rear 80 housing). Keep it up, this one should be great when you're done!

If there a reason more don't go this route? I will admit there's a bit of work with it but all in all still happy with my direction.

Can't say for sure, most of it is probably just the cycles of knowledge. If you look in the FAQ at the astro box info, most of the tech is from the early days of the forum, pre 2010 at least. Not sure if it became less common due to parts availability, but for sure I can see it not being the #1 option because it is more difficult for access during install. I like it because the box out of sight. I forgot all about the s-10 tank option and just bought a $700 aftermarket fuel cell that does the exact same thing in the exact same spot....so its one of those things where you just gotta do the research. After seeing your post, i remember that option, but I bought on impulse, probably like a lot of folks do and cost myself more than necessary. The rear axle work is probably too daunting for many. Looks like you've got some pretty solid fabrication skills. Thanks for sharing your build.

That makes sense, I have five a lot of reading on all of options, and some like you said are old threads. Your right about the rear axle it was a bit of work and it's still not all together, but I couldn't pass on the full float axle.
