bezel disorientation, and dragging-under-the-skid-plate-exhaust...

Exhaust under the skid plate is correct. I bought stock exhaust for my 68 in the early 1990s. It ran under the skid plate. Awful as far as off road but allowed the clearance for PTO and driveshaft to the winch. This is my 10/75 which a 76 model.

That is the original exhaust.

Round reflectors on the sides were replaced with rectangular lights 9/75. Stamped louvers started 9/71. Can't tell if there is one but but good spear ran thru the 9/71 when the two piece hood was replaced with single piece. Hood louvers were shorter on the one piece hood.

And let’s not forget! Toyota actually sabotaged the IDEA of running the exhaust over the skidplate by putting a useless tab on the leading edge of the skidplate that blocked the potential path of a protected pipe.

I remember shortly after I got Ruftoys on the road in ‘86 wanting a new exhaust system, and taking the truck, with the skidplate, to a semi local muffler shop that was owned by a classmate’s father. We discovered the issue in short order, and with 10 seconds of torch work, the issue was removed!😛

Yup, in 'the day', one of the selling points for the Downey et al header conversion was that it re-routed the pipe above the skidplate.
I recall dealing with the tab with a hacksaw I had to buy for that purpose.

Let’s talk about the dune buggy parasailing in the background!

I miss the 70’s, even though I left them when I was 6, I got a great education. Could mix a cocktail, light a cigarette, hurl a giant dart in the air and find my way home from anywhere in town.
Had to wait until the 80’s for firearms and motorcycles when I was 7…

I feel bad for later generations.

I think at some point in the waaay back, Texas and West Virginia broke out of Juvenile Hall and took Alabama with them. 🤠

Thing was, this was Northern California for me, but you’re probably correct regardless.

I think Plato said the new generation doesn't show any respect and they are lazy...
Ask not what your country can do for you but what can you do for your country! Now its the Me First Generation folks that aren't sure what bathroom to use unless its California and then they just use the street.

Colorado.,
1986-ish.
Someone parked an FJ40 in a random family photo. The body looks modified, with at least two spotlights attached to the fiberglass top. It's body is sporting a pre-'75-look, but with radial tires - pump your fists for the 1980s! They look like they are on wider rims, no lift. I bet that it improved some trail capability, at the expense of some street manners, but, it might have been hard to notice. That is why vintage is so cool, it lets you relive a former perspective. It would have been so cool to have owned a Land Cruiser, and then one day you walk your hard-earned-dough into a shop, and drive out with new radial tires and a set of fresh wider wheels.

The family ride, the AMC Ambassador station wagon - 100% 'land-yacht.' Dolores, Colorado. Watch-out, those hubcaps never stayed on those wheels - the hubcap lets loose on the highway, and recovering one of them clear of on-coming traffic is like a sport.
