Fj40 half tub replacement woes....

Before I went any further, I would put the hard top on it, see what challenges that brings?

This...^^^^

If the top rails from the door opening to the rear are correct, trim the inch from where it marries to the front floor.

No hard top. I had planned to get a soft top and bows. Not sure that will even work now. Frank seems like a decent guy but a salesman for sure. Yes... compared to oem.... no comparison. Tub seems "tinny" and backing braces don't match my old rear tub braces... they are on opposite side... for later model spare tire racks... gas filler opening also for later model year...will have to make modifications there too. No clearance light holes... very raw..., am going to need therapy before this is over!

My goodness. I've commented on this subject before (post #31 here). From what I've read, Frank is stand-up guy, but I wouldn't want to be Frank. This manufacturer can't be helped.

In post #37 in the same thread @FloridaFJ80 states that they back up their products 100% . It is understood that body panels need some fitting but this looks a quality issue. OP, keep at it, youve worked too hard to use this pile of promises on your build.

My company, Land Cruiser Heaven, sells Colombian Land Cruiser replacement body panels and can agree with some of the comments here, I would have to say that we are working hard everyday to provide a good quality and cost efficient product. I can see why it would seem sketchy on 3rd world operators not caring about their product, or the lack of quality control or discipline. The 3rd world mindset has always been that these arent supposed to be 100% your body guy needs to work the pieces, and though in some cases this can be right it doesnt mean it has to be the norm. I have bridged this gap and have built a team that is focused on quality and improving the product via feedback from our customers and our US based restorations. Its one thing having to deal with a company in Colombia where there could be a landguage barrier and a distributor in the US. With Land Cruiser Heaven, you only deal with us. We are a soup to nuts. We back up our products 100%. We are a US based company, taking away from the uncertainty and risk in dealing internationally. @fj40yow The company should have been up front about the shipping charges whether it be stateside or internationally and if the deal was to be delivered then they should have honored it. I have opted to lose money in deals than changing things after the fact, its not good business. I am glad that everything worked out for you in the end and truly appreciate this type of feedback for other mudders to take into consideration. As I myself, was a mudder before I became a Vendor.

I was about to post the exact same thing...maybe the guarantee is only 75% now?

i wouldnt touch it until i talk to frank at length and that it ends with him taking the tub back. theres way too many wrong things. flames would be shooting out of my ears. i understand full well that its going to need some love, but being that it doesnt even come close to bolting up is ridiculous. why even weld the mounts to the body?! just ship them loose and you weld them! and its not the correct period. talk to frank first!

youd be better off if he can get you a rehab'ed toyota tub if he can get you one from '71.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm going to set the tub on the frame tonight and take a few pictures. Pictures speak 1000 words right? I just walked away from it after seeing the initial problem (and tape measure). I bought paint on Friday and had planned to start painting tonight.lol. There are flames coming out my ears but you just can't see them.ha ha

Curious, how this was shipped to you. Was it FOB destination or FOB origin? Because of the terrible packaging, I'm going to guess FOB origin. If so, it shows the vendor really doesn't care, at all. That shipping damage was preventable, if it were crated properly. That, along with the "extra inch", would have me wanting my money back.

Vendor needs to come on and comment. We all are waiting to see if this is what he wants to be known for. Has he been notified that this is on the forum?

Has anyone used a half tub purchased through landcruiser heaven? I just finished joining the front and rear tub sections. Out of curiousity, I measured the body mount holes and compared them to the old rear tub. Turns out the new rear tub is 1" longer!!!!!!!NO!!!! Not a bad dream. Mine is a 1971 which I specified when ordering. I have no idea how to accommodate this extra 1". It's going to throw off my body mounts, my wheel position in fender openings it's going to hang over the rear bumper by an inch. I've spent countless hours fitting the two halves together and doing body work on the replacement tub section. (It came on a pallet... beat to hell, the sides were both bent inward. The front opening for wheel well (horn?) was bent 90 degrees...). Dings galore....
My question.... has anyone else experienced this??? Any ideas?? I'm thinking about extending the frame rails 1inch. Right now I'm trying to absorb this!! The major part of my budget was spent on this rear tub.....

Raymond, It was good hearing from you yesterday. When you called me regarding the damages from freight, I responded per our policies on the website. Once the item is picked up by the carrier then it is the customer's responsibility to file any claims with the carrier. I never heard from you again until last night and assumed that it was made right by them. I was completely unaware that you never got anywhere with them. I could have spoken with my shipping broker and made a claim that way had I known. Was the delivery ticket notated of this damage? Anyways, I am sorry you had this issue with the product.

Before now, I had not seen the pictures of the damage from the shipping company. I contracted a US based company to handle all packaging and shipping logistics and was unaware of how they shipped these items. They are supposed to be the experts in that realm so I let them run with it. I will be making a claim with them as well regarding this. For those that know me, stateside, I am a one man show with a day job. And in efforts to speed up shipping times I have out source the shipping and logistics aspect of the business. My containers arrive at a warehouse in Virginia and they pack and ship everything out.

To address the issue with the tub. Like I mentioned yesterday, this was the first time I had heard about the length issue on the Pre 78 tubs. I have imported over 30 rear tubs since 2015 and have had (1) feedback on the Post 79 rear tubs from a mud member on it being an 1" too long. For which, I talked to the manufacturer and they made the necessary changes. You also asked me what others had done, and I said that they cut the sides 1" from where it mates with B pillar. Since you have already welded the tub to rest of the body its a lot more work. You were going to look it over and let me know what the outcome was. I have already contacted my people in Colombia and have made the claim with them. I will need your help in sending me the pictures I need for that, but regardless of that outcome I will be replacing your tub for you. Lets work together to make sure you get what you purchased. I have a container scheduled for late Sept 2017 and will have a new rear tub for you on that container. I sincerely apologize for this issue and I hope that you accept my offer into making this right.

This is why I love this forum, One for all, all for one.......Good on you FloridaFJ80

I purchased a Land Cruiser tub/metal products from Columbia and WILL NOT EVER make that mistake again.

Totally misrepresented garbage.

I wish you all the best moving forward.

Yes Poser, Right on. Before all the congratulations are handed out, let's see how this bummer situation pans out. It's tough enough to come up with the dough and time to restore our Land Cruisers, but when you get a product that requires massive amounts of your time to rectify and get stupid suggestions to make it work, when it should of been right the first time.... I get a bit heated..

Make it right Land Cruiser Heaven.

Very well stated!

I heard from frank and as I suspected.. he's a stand up guy... he is going to make it right with me.... he's going to send me a new tub, correct dimensions next shipment he gets from Columbia. (Late September). Now I'll start deconstruction on this body... i'll keep everybody posted on how this project goes, including the new tub. Timeframe and how it pans out. After talking to Frank I am hopeful it will all go well. I realize he's just a distributor and this was a flaw from the manufacturer.
