We had a good turnout. We managed to make six handoffs in 60 seconds! Hopefully @toyotalandfj40 and @Downey will share the pics their SOS took in the Travelogue thread.

The toolbox will be leaving Burbank a little heavier thanks to a contribution of nearly three dozen stainless steel hose clamps. Help yourselves!

Is it headed north? :bounce:

I recognize all three of you guys...but that baton is an imposter!:p
I don't think so. This Baton was built to replace the one that was stalled in the Carolinas for months in the beginning.
It most certainly IS NOT an "imposter". Perhaps you should read ALL the threads associated with the rally before passing such judgement-

Judgement? The briefcase was in NC for about two weeks thanks to a decided lack of interest by local 40 owners. I drove 150 miles to get it, 150 miles back and then 200 miles around the state as I waited for someone from SC to pick it up. And had a mechanical breakdown in the process. No! It wasn't in NC for MONTHS!

Also, I was the ONLY one in the entire state that expressed any interest in participating. Even after asking in clubhouse threads twice! If someone can give me advice on herding cats or getting interest in a project, I will be more than happy to listen.

Gosh, I hope this expedition is not loosing forward momentum. One of it's finer moments was a nifty BBQ at Marks Off Road to celebrate the tool box passing through the LA area.

Less than three weeks from now the briefcase will be headed west into Arizona and into the capable hands of @Reznugget. Radiator issues with my '76 FJ40 earlier this year kept us from a previously scheduled meet in Pagosa Springs, but the '76 did well on the fairly long drive to and from the Solid Axle Summit in Ouray. All systems are go.

20 stickers for the brown toolbox are being mailed to @REZARF this afternoon. I just remembered I had already sent 10 additional stickers for the red toolbox to @DSRTRDR a while back.

At just over a year into this epic adventure for the tool boxes, briefcase and MUD members, is there anyone on here documenting the routes these batons have traveled to get to where they are?

Good point. I'll make sure I capture the handoffs from @POTATO LAUNCHER and to @Reznugget, plus the local trips with the briefcase. I'll also add all of the routes on the trip to and from Colorado for the Solid Axle Summit, including the briefcase's journeys up and/or over Stony, Red Mountain (X3), Engineer, California, Hurricane, Corkscrew, Black Bear, and Imogene Passes.

I haven't heard of anyone wanting to take the tan box... is there a way to drum up interest. Just to be clear, before I got the box I had no idea what it was or the story behind it (still kinda' don't) but it seems fun. I am more than happy to play along I just want to keep this thing moving along down the trail.

Anyone of interest in Colorado or Wyoming? Heading to Wyoming through FoCo tomorrow.

I've not kept up with this event...sorry. But yes, I should be able to take the baton up to Mono Lake. Let me catch up on this thread and look at my schedule to be sure. Will get back to this thread in a day or so...and btw I'm in Big Pine which is about 40 miles north of Lone Pine.

John

Did you catch up yet? I'm still planning on being in Big Pine the 18th or 19th with the red 'baton.' Did @powthief19 reach out to you about a 'care package '?

I can't tell from the thread who if anyone plans to meet up with you. Maybe @ginmtb .I'm certainly not making any promises. Like @David1947 , it can be like herding cats.

If someone else shows up at the shop before I leave on the trip, the baton could also end up going in a different direction. I never said I HAD TO take it somewhere, just that I would.

I could also take it to Palmdale tomorrow...IF SOMEONE CALLS THE SHOP TODAY and asks me to.

I understand...herding cats indeed.

I will keep a closer eye on this thread but at this time the 18th or 19th will work for me. Those dates could 'possibly ' be moved a day or 2 either way if needed.

The tan one(surrogate Baton) was cobbled together to move the "baton(s) up ,out of Fla when then main Baton got stalled in the Carolinas for a while.Idea was this baton would supplement the main one from up North 'til it was back on track. When it did, the surrogates' contents would be added back to the main. There was a request on the Forum to push the surrogate on - at least to Moab. Don't know the fate of the Surrogate after that--if the contents and decals were transferred to the other main, then it could probably be retired-BUT, if the thing has moved on(as I think it has) then I would vote to let it continue the journey to wherever it may go, giving it full documentary as if it were an original--it's going places the other two are not--more pics, more commentary, and more meetups.
