I needed to install a set of rear shims for the pinion angle correction and decided to pull the drums for a brake inspection. I'd say they were in need of a new set of shoes. I plan to have the drivers side drum turned and replace the passenger with an OEM one I had on the shelf that will need to be turned as well. The old one of the passenger side was beyond turning.

Surprisingly enough, the rear brakes weren't making any noise....

I found the passenger side wheel cylinder all hunker up with 30+ year old brake fluid. Long story short, I replaced both rear wheel cylinders with the new pads, hardware kit, and had the oem drums turned at a local auto parts store.

I don't have good before photos, but the after photo is great. I was hunting a replacement factory wheel for my spare since it will be going on the back of my 60 with the new trail tailor bumper (can't have it looking bad with Jason's pretty welds!). I pulled the spare off and decided to give a shot at bringing it back to life, well I was more than pleased with the way it turned out! A little work with an SOS pad and 20 minutes later, the pretty finished product.

Looks awesome... Now make sure that you cover it with something so that rust doesn't come back. I recently found Quik Glo as something good that seems to work quite well at shining it up and it also protects the metal (slight wax coating).

Ha, yes I was as surprised as you! Apologies for not getting back with you! I'm a big fan of the factory wheels on the 60's.

Got my A/C line made, system charged and working good when the clutch is manually engaged with 12v. Digging into my A/C amplifier..... grrrrr. I installed he 454T tach generator, and soldered the resistor in place as shown on another v8 swap thread. Any ideas guys?

My apologies if you've already looked it this...but...it seems like the solution is to make the amplifier not need an RPM signal, rather than trying to feed it the signal it wants to see.

Also not sure if your '83 is the same as a later FJ60 (?) - See the post by "TrickyT", page one of this thread:

The A/C Amp Thread

Resistor removed, RPM circuit ignored.

That's my plan (but mine is an '87).

Thanks @orion for the thread link. I haven't read that one yet,, looks like the one I need. I'll give it a shot tonight and report on the results tomorrow. @dbleon - I'm not sure about the dryer, a reputable local shop did the work so I assume (famous last words) that it is OK to mount that way.

I followed the above thread and clipped out the resistor for the tach input signal, worked like a charm! I did however have issues with the factory wire powering the GM compressor. It kept blowing the 10 amp fuse the controls the A/C system. I decided to wire he compressor with a 30 amp relay with an extra feed I had coming off the battery. I used the factory signal wire to activate the relay and protected the feed with a 20 amp fuse off the battery. The front relay in the photo is for the compressor and the rear relay is a ground signal to the ecm to turn on the low fan whenever the A/C clutch is engaged. I still need to clean up the wiring a bit, hat will be tomorrow's project! Thanks again @orion for the info.

I also did some work on my new trail tailor rear bumper last week. I kept going back and forth On the rear lighting situation and decided to get out the plasma cutter and mount some light in the rear bumper before it goes out for powder coat this week.
