Lights off. Great day. Even with a few setbacks. Will be resting between the rails tomorrow

Head down for the last 3 hours plugging it all back in.

Love me some MAF 2 piece headers but man, they are a bitch to install. Especially with this style power steering looming over the #1 M10 bolt.

Also, these floodlights are Koito. Never seen. Love the look.

Wow…quick when you have your act together…!

Looking good!

That is a lot of new shiny stuff!

Should Nolan have painted the bell housing so it would look good at the car show when the mirrors go underneath? :p

You got other problems than that

H55 into a 40.

First, you have to cut out the torque tube

Second you have to grind a couple of ears into the 4 speed bellhousing to clear the H55

Also, we will be putting this 4Plus skid/crossmember in so we won’t be using the bellhousing motor mounts but I always leave the passenger side mount on.

Three reasons.

Most importantly the clutch master mounts to it.

Second you use it to hold the motor at a slight angle that helps with tranny install

Third you put a bolt through it to locate the driveline center

You can leave it as it will float but you can remove and trim. I leave them whole.

In.

Great to see!

Thanks for keeping a list of all the stuff that it requires. All this has had me on the fence for 2+ years on this project, even with the correct 40 series H55 top case there is a lot to do, glad you are up to the challenge!

Fresh Stronger 2F Power.
89nolder tuned Sniper.
3:1 transfer case gears.
Lower 1st gear.
Extra 5th gear.
A few suspension upgrades to be revealed later.

Been a year without one of my all time favorite trucks, exciting stuff!

Nothing like a kick in the nuts to slow progress

As you may know there are 2 different shaped 2F bellhousings. M

One covers 1974-1984 with some variations on the side mounts etc

In 1985 they clocked the bellhousing mounts down clockwise a few degrees to eliminate that silly double cardan shaft used in the 80-84 60 series.

Well Dave makes this mount for both style and even though we discussed what I was using the wrong front mount ended up here.

Of course he has the correct piece there so he’s shipping it out tomorrow.

No problem. I’ll move to another item on the list. Get my numbers for the driveshafts etc.

That should give you an opportunity to paint the bellhousing.

Didn’t get started today until 2. Since I’m waiting on the crossmember I decided to move to the suspension.

We are switching springs and shocks to Terrain Tamer.

Also, I’m pushing the rear axle back 1” and adding 4*
Caster shims. Why the shims? Well, with an 18” driveshaft it almost becomes mandatory for a double cardan. I went through this on my Shorty 70 and we came up with a very similar setup.

So, there are 2 ways to get that 1”. Drill the spring perch or drill a new hole in the spring.

With high arch springs like the Dobinsons you really have to do the perch. OME and Terrain Tamer have a nice flat spot to move back 1”.

The terrain tamer has an aircraft carrier of flat and only 2 leafs so that was a no brainer.

Well, until it turns out whatever magic they put in these leafs is all about making them hard as titanium.

Holy s***.

Wheel is centered.

Hoping we can keep these nifty little tubes. They might protect his uncut fenders.

Short ass shaft

Shimmed up. New ubolts. Once these are cut they spread out and are almost impossible to reinstall

6* with 4* shims and these monster shackles

Sitting dead nuts level and the same height as before with the big ole OME packs.

All painted pretty.

Just ordered the shafts.

Standard 32” front

19.5” double cardan rear.

Just sent Patty a bill and I’m knocking off for 5 days for the PNW with family.

🤘

I was pretty happy with the 19.5” driveshaft. I was actually expecting shorter.

Next week when I get home I’ll get the @lcwizard crossmember burned in.

That will set the driveline height.

Next we will graft in the elevated H55 top cover to the 1978 hump to fit the tranny hump

Rebuild the interior so I can fire up the Voodoo 2F

We are also adding a catalytic converter at some point. I’m holding off on calling in the Wizard. It’s painful.

Thanks for documenting this, Good info for the 2F/H55 install in wife's late 76 40.

Lots of upgrades crammed under that hood, looks quite daunting to put back together.

Reaching out to @lcwizard for a crossmember. Now hoping I got the correct Bellhousing!
