run the same set up with 4 inch bs 17x8 rims and mtr2 37 1250s i rub in the rear upinside the wheelwell liner stock bumpstops stock control arms and flareless

This is super useful to me... Please clarify a few things for me if you dont mind...

1. You are rubbing in the rear against the inner fender well, outer fender well, or outer fender lip... or possibly the center of wheel well due to tire entering at an angle

2. I guess I need the liner defined as one of the above options to start visualizing a cure/where its rubbing, or a picture...

3. I run a 2" extended bump stop on the rear. Would this solve your issue?

Thanks
Adam

Cutting the Sliders to fit 37" tires

The shop has been swamped but I managed to get the sliders cut today. I yanked them off the car. I had sold my band saw a while back cause it took up a lot of space so I rigged my metal chop saw and got to work. Here is how it went down.

First I cut the end cap off of the slider:

Next I cut all the way back to the pipe:
Land%20Cruiser%20FJ80%2037%20Inch%20Tires%20(40).jpg

Here is what is should look like when welded...

A little grinding and fitting:

Got Everything to re-weld end caps back on:
Land%20Cruiser%20FJ80%2037%20Inch%20Tires%20(44).jpg

Here you can see how close it comes to the pipe section:
Land%20Cruiser%20FJ80%2037%20Inch%20Tires%20(45).jpg

Thats pretty much it for the sliders. I dont think I will grinding on the welds to much. Probably just prime and install. Next I will be cutting the front bumper section that hangs into the fender wheel well. The bumper seems like it may be weak when I cut it so I may be adding some more steel etc... we will see.

I'm looking to go with 37's pretty soon. Running 35's now. I have the OME J lift w/ spacers up front, ARB front bumper... What backspacing & wheels are you running or suggest? I've heard of a couple guys running this set up with no problems.
I just mounted 37" Nitto Trails a couple of weeks ago. Took it out again today and flexed it out pretty good. With 1" wheel spacers, it was rubbing on the flairs a bit, but now that I pulled them off, it clears them OK. Still gets really close at the bottom of the rear flairs, so I will be trimming about 3/8" off of them. Right rear tire inner sidewall does rub on the fender well a bit, so I am going to bump the pan hard a little to center the rear better when it is stuffed. I don't really care if they are off center when it is parked on flat ground. John

Cutting Front ARB to fit 37" tires

Before I left yesterday I had also cut the front bumpers to better match the fender lines. I used the Plasma cutter and a straight edge which made the job a breeze. Here is how it looks.

Here is the straight edge, ground for plasma cutter, and line I will be cutting.

Here is how it looks cut. I am going to cap this. I was thinking at a later time of adding a led on the cap to help people in blind spot know when I am changing lanes :steer:

The next step...

I didn't factor this in but I am cutting everything off my rear bumper swing outs as my 37" tire doesn't fit. So... this is turning into a bigger project than I thought, but I am having fun with it. As of right now all the body work will be done and ready to apply the bedliner which arrives on Thursday. After it dries re-assemble and drive :hillbilly:

Fitting the 37" tire on the swingout

I had to cut the rear bumper up to get a better (in my opinion) set up for the 37" tire on the rear of my rig. I placed it dead center. I am hoping this will help with bringing my mountain bikes. If I attach the rack to the tire I think I will have a swing away bike rack as well based on prelim measurements. Anyways, I am running out of time before the planned pismo trip and decided all I need is a spare on the back for this run. Here is how the 37" fits.

I am open to ideas on what else to stick back here. Right now my only requirement is the highlift and a jerry can. I can do all this on drivers side and I am left with room for a 40mm ammo can or ____________ (fill in the blank) on the passanger side.

Input appreciated.

Here is the rear bumper tire mount:

Here it is mounted. I almost go a hernia lifting this...

I rub on wage inside of the upper wheel wail up above the frame. I'll take a pic when igp to gunny this weekend. 2inch bump would prop fix it but its just barely rubbing the inside at full flex and lifting a tire so not too much of a issue for me. I aslo have no pan hard correction and run low pressure 13. Nothing else rubbs

Great build pics! Thanks for sharing. I'm in San Carlos. I think I see your truck from time to time!

Best,

Michael

I have seen your rig around town also. I just checked out your site. Good reviews on there. I am thinking of planning a trip to Alabama Hills now. Let me know if you have any trips coming up.

Early Morning Welding - Finished End Caps

I came in around 5 a.m. to get some stuff wrapped up. I wanted to share the front finished bumper for anyone going down the same road.

I was able to cut the ARB end caps off of the pieces I removed yesterday. With a little grinding they lined up with the cut bumper. I welded them on this morning.

Due to the purchase of the plasma cutter I was able to get this done in 45 minutes. I am really impressed with this $200 plasma cutter I got on ebay. So far it has cut through everything I have thrown at it and its lasted over 2 years.

Here is the drivers side end cap welded back on the bumper:

Here is a shot that shows a little more of the inner side.

Very nice! what kind of plasma cutter are you running?

Waiting for parts and materials

I am waiting for stuff to arrive now. Front shocks are made to order and taking a while.

Bedliner arrives Thursday/Friday...Besides that I am pretty much at a stand still. :bang:

I did find one little project after I pulled the rear bumper. There are two holes in the bottom of the quarter panel one from the factory bumper trim and the other was covered in some type of round tape sticker at the factory. I do a lot of water crossings so I figured plug the holes. Kity Hair Drying:

Don't get your panties in a wad.

Everyone in the entire industry has been at KOH, and sure Glenn and his team were there doing free tuning.

Call LT.

Yeah, spoke with LT. I got some feedback and it seems that KOH was the reason for the delay. Anyways, I expect to see the shocks in 2 weeks or less.

More Progress on fitting the 37" tires on the fj80

Here is an update. The bed liner was damaged in shipment and was sent back. :flipoff2: Grizzly Grip was kind enough to eat the shipping and ship overnight here by 11am tomorrow!! So I got the truck all sanded and taped. I will be rolling on the bed liner tomorrow from the green tape down. Still waiting for shocks. I may not be riding on the radflos in pismo. Here is everything scuffed and prepped for bedliner.

Scuffed and Prepped:

I also prepped and scuffed the hood. My thoughts are cover that crappy oxidation look with bedliner and I can use the hood as a work surface to hold winchline, tow straps, tools, etc.. without worrying about paint. It will be a makeshift trail workbench. :hillbilly:

Bedlined fzj80 fitting 37" tires

What color are you lining it? Looks great so far.

Black Bed Liner.

My brother covered his entire 80 in green tinted liner to try to keep his 80 looking stock green and now he has the nickname "The Avacado". Trying to avoid fruit and vegetable nicknames. :p

Bed Liner Application - 37" Tire Fitment Project

Ok, So I got the whole truck cleaned and prepped. I am going to be slapping on bedliner after my late lunch. Here is the final product before the clean up.

The next step is to get the bedliner on. The one area that really represented an issue for me was the door handles. I pulled them and removed the lock cylinders. I sprayed on the bed liner and they are drying off to the side. Here is how the handles turned out.
land.jpg

Next I will be getting the bedliner on the body. More pictures to come. Should have first coat done in 2 hours. :grinpimp:

Did you tape of the mechanical parts of the door handles on the back before you sprayed? It looks like they might get goober'd up if you didn't.
