Did you tape of the mechanical parts of the door handles on the back before you sprayed? It looks like they might get goober'd up if you didn't.

I applied a super thin coat of grease. After I sprayed & it dried whatever adhered to the grease simply wiped off.

Body Work for Fitting 37" Tires on my FZJ80

So, I got to rolling this morning early and started the day crazy high on paint fumes

I have one coat on so far and this is how it looks. Sorry, the light sucks but hopefully you get the idea. Brushed the hard to reach places and rolled the rest. I was stoked with the coverage and everything looks uniform (no roller patterns etc...) The LINEX Guy wanted $4,500 :flipoff2:

How many coats are you putting on the truck? What kind of texture is the liner?

Nice! I really wanted to get the whole truck sprayed with line-x after I get it all welded up. But I've been reading lots of good things about the monstaliner, and I'm contemplating going this route. How thick we're you able to get the liner, and how much did you end up using? Also, can you get any close up pics low the texture?

Looks really good man!

Bedliner Two Coats

Two Coats. I have done this on many different ways on 6-7 rigs. Mine is the 8th. Usually Two coats is enough unless you are doing light color on a dark... Tan on black took 3 coats.

I have used Grizzly Grip: http://grizzlygrip.com/

As thick as you want. Grizzly Grip Takes 2 hours to recoat. So you can build it up 1/16th of an inch at a time.

Here is some shots of me pulling the tape off. At this point it was roughly 3 hours of dry time. 2 hours from first coat... pulled tape off 1 hour after second coat. My brother showed up and took some action shots:clap:

Here is the closest shot I got so far of the thickness of the liner, I will get more when I pull it out in the sun:

What about the texture? I eventually want to coat my whole truck, and I'd rather roll it on than spray. The other product I was looking at was durabak. I got a sample of it and the texture is way to rough for my tastes. I was hoping that this grizzly grip liner was much smoother than the durabak, closer to the orange peel texture of the Al's or raptor liner after spraying. I'm mainly looking for a liner that comes tinted from the factory instead of getting a plain product and adding my own tint, and one that has good UV protection added to the whole mix instead of just a top coat.

You may want to look at monstaliner. It meets your requirements.

You're right. I've been researching liners for months now and have completely overlooked monstaliner for some reason. I just requested some samples and think this might be the product for me.

37" Tires FZJ80 finalizing the project

The rig is out front getting some Vitamin D.... Here is what it looks like bare. I will be putting all the door handles, snorkel, bumpers, sliders, and random S*&T back on in a few hours. :D

I was trying to figure out a place to put the (40th Edition) badges back on the sides... any ideas?

Wrapped up fitting the 37" tires - Body Work Done

I grabbed some pictures of the final project:

Drivers side at Pismo in the morning. I am digging the strip of factory paint! :D

The other side of the rig at camp:

Here is a shot of my rig (closest) next to one with 33's, and then another with 35's just to give some perspective of the size difference and the amount of metal removed:

All in all it was a labor intensive project. It took a lot of time to get this done. I did this to my rig to find out what was involved before we perform the same job for a client. I also really liked the idea of extra travel and low CG. I have had some PM's with inquiries for price to do the job etc... I will be responding individually.

I still have not installed the radflos or the rear j springs I will snap photos of relevant steps in that process.

I will also try to source some of land tanks lower control arms as I do want to move the axle back a hair to stop some rubbing and adjust angle. Those arms look strong as s*#t. (Thanks for the idea Paul) Does anyone have any ideas where I can order them?

Cheers

I didn't make it out to the beach because my rig was in the shop going on a sheetmetal diet.

We waited for you all day :flipoff2: Looks like you had better things to do :D

Nice work! Looks badass.

Do you have anymore pictures of that rear fender? How did they do it? Cut the lip completely off and spot weld? Very curious. any fires inside the cab?

Thanks
Adam

More pics in the daylight tomorrow. He cut the rear inner and folded it upward and then to the outer. looks factory!!!!!!
I'll take some closeups of it tomorrow. it's badass.:D

Patiently waiting for pictures. :smokin:

Do you have a build thread? I am interested in seeing the rest of your 80 but don't feel like driving to Pismo again...

I put on 2 coats of the roughest texture. I ordered 4 quarts and have 1 left.
