Why o why. I welded the washer and the nut onto it. And it just snapped further down there... So now i have no clue what to do. These reverse drill bits which should get screws out not worked a single time for me. And they always snapped when the force was applied. Because lets be honest they even push the bolt outside and make it wider... so last thing is to drill... which also ive never been able to save the thread. So means two holes gone? No idea how to fix this properly and that they both need to break off further down there is something!

At least the transmission is done:

Is that in cast iron? I like Kroil applied daily for like a week with some gentle warming to help it soak in.

Left handed bits can work. You need to drill a small hole threw the bolt first - say 1/8"; This allows the bolt to shrink somewhat. Use a center punch to get it as close to center as you can. Go up a size or two 3/16, 1/4, next is the left handed drill for tapping threads of that bolt size 10mm? If bolt doesn't back out, use a narrow chisel to cut the threads out on the exposed side.

Drill it out and tap to next size up or two, put in an insert back to proper size with locking compound.

A mag drill with a 2 fluke center cutting end mill, you could try for tap size of existing thread or just go for the insert size.

Watch some Abom79 vids on broken bolt removal and thread replacement.

Time for a deep breath. Do you know anyone that can Tig weld? I little better control to build up the broken bolt and get a nut on.

Today i died a bit inside. Again. Im so sad and angry at myself the same time when something like this happens. I was polishing the surface of the harmonic balancer and then it fell to the floor. I was spinning it on a stand drill and it just flew off.. after about 20 min of polishing...

Now that rubber is disconnected. I assume its scrap now. At least my research tells me.

But there is one light at the horizon. Ive bought the Vintage AC unit. From Cruiser Corps. Would i anyways need another pulley? Im just sad i destroy things which are so rare at this frequency.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Whoa, whoa, whoa there Lone Ranger you got to slow it down a bit, that harmonic balancer can be rebonded. Would take some logistics and shipping but there's a fellow in Oregon who can goop that back together for you for a fraction of what that new pulley costs.

I did something similar by sending the balancer out to be powder coated, they must have sandblasted it because it came back as two pieces and it took me some time to figure out what it was, sent it to the guy in Oregon and got it back in fine condition a couple weeks later.

Looked up the contact information and unfortunately the guy I used in Oregon to fix my balancer Dale Manufacturing is no longer on business. This is a bummer because that pretty much voids the "lifetime warranty" on the repair. 🙁

Anyhow there's another bigger company in Redding, California that still seems to be doing the harmonic balancer rebonding. Tried to link there website but didn't seem to work, the company's name is "Damper Doctor".

Good luck!

Your balancer came back in two pieces because you can't powder coat rubber bonded parts. Too hot and it goes bye bye. 😅

@PidgeonGuggolo I can't really tell from the pics. Is it just dented? Or is the bonded rubber actually separating?

Yep it's funny now but I was rather confused at the time. I came home with more parts than I sent out and initially thought I had ended up with someone else's junk ..........😁.

Where the dent is, on the transition to the regular shape, on both sides there is a gap where i can push a flat metal piece inside of about 2mm and it spans about half way of the balancer. I read that this will come loose at a later stage...

I read about AC and PS on the same belt to be a unsatisfying solution thats why i pulled that trigger on the new balancer. and the fact that its all new... but yeah, my brain wont let me be in a state of beeing helpless thats where money tries to fix this.
