Chris, looking good. Tell Green hair not to be jealous. The guy who formed it has 25 years experience. Inner panels look good. Thanks Bob.

I told her that the rolled portion was formed around your own "image"....if you get what I mean.

She asked for your number, so don't disappoint and take lots of pics.

okay
part number 45460-69135 tube is 42" with center of end at 48" with +/- 1" play
part number 45450-69085 tube is 30 1/4"" with center of end at 38" with +/- 1" play
so unless you go with 60 PS box, this relay rod won't work in your application.
hope this helps

Doing some steering reseach, see this thread for some add'l info:

Well, well, well!

I think I have some good news for those following the latest about how make a relay rod/drag link using factory parts...

I found some part numbers for BJ-70 parts (thanks cruiser_guy ) that yielded a passenger side relay rod end with tube assembly and a driver side relay rod end (connects to pitman arm) with tube assembly.

So I ended up with an extra tube assembly once I put both ends on the same tube.

Part number 45045-60H01 buys you the PS end w/ tube
Part number 45044-60H03 buys you the DS end w/ tube (left hand threads)

NOTE: the "H" in the part number denotes an assembly vs individual part.

The tube measures 30 3/8 inches
PS end measures about 2 1/2 inches if screwed all the way in
DS end measures about 4 1/2 inches if screwed all the way in
This should yield a relay rod assembly of about 37 3/8 inches.
I need an assembly measuring about 37 7/8 inches

This should work!!! :bounce: :bounce2:

Doing some steering reseach

Is there anything I can measure to aid in research?

Limited time left to do so....

No, they're OE 55 rods and ends. Have for the '72, too, so must still be available.

I can't recall exactly the parameters we were discussing with the 70 rods, but saw you're post and figured I'd measure, if need be.

Still have the '72s in my possession, so no big deal to measure.....I'd forgotten I had for it when I posted "limited time" as those depicted are headed your general direction for re coating.

I'd think if you were going to a 60 PS box the 70 series relay rod would be needed to eliminate the center arm no?

Ah-ha.

That's what the conversation was regarding, now I recall.

When we were discussing, was looking at having custom links made for the 60 box and outers and that's when crushers brought up that 70 rods may work and run the larger TREs, eliminating the reducers at the gearbox.

Reiterating my piss poor choice in a resto candidate, once again.

Although I'm not discouraged, I've come to grips with the fact that this will take me many years to complete.

Since the discussion continued into the extent to which the rot had continued to increase the time spent, I didn't take but one pic, since the wheels were turning....

Is she really that hot or is it just an optical illusion created by her doing body work on a LC? :D

Almost - the double ended drag link is 55 specific and hard to find, I'd think if you were going to a 60 PS box the 70 series relay rod would be needed to eliminate the center arm no?

Tucker

Yes, I did this on the 40 when I put 60 series PS on. I reamed out the PS TRE to accept the 70 series relay rod end. The length works.
